Greg and Earl (Mann and Cyler) are high school students who spend their time making their own versions of classic movies. Greg makes it his high school purpose to not belong to any one group, but to have a small role to play in each and every clique. When Greg's mother (Connie Britton) tells him that a girl from his class, Rachel (Olivia Cook), has been diagnosed with leukemia, she convinces her son to pay her a friendly visit. As Greg tries to get to know Rachel and provide her with a comforting shoulder to cry on, the two end up forming a unique bond of friendship and provide each other with much-needed love and affection.
