This book reports on cutting-edge digital technologies and their
applications in physical activity and sport. Gathering selected
chapters from the 1st International Conference on Technology in
Physical Activity and Sport, held virtually on November 24-27,
2020, from Seville, Spain, it offers a practice-oriented and
evidence-based perspective on how technologies can be used for
evaluation and control of different parameter relating to sport,
physical activity, and health. It covers how digital technologies
can be applied for training and monitoring purposes, and for
improving athlete's performance, how they influence sport habits in
different populations, demonstrating their growing influence in
sport businesses (such as fitness centers) and management, and
provides new findings on the connection between physical activity
and human health, suggesting some interesting directions for future
studies. With a good balance of laboratory research and information
relevant for professional trainers, this book will provide
bioengineers, sport scientists, and physiotherapists with timely
information and a multidisciplinary perspective on the use of
digital technologies to improve fitness, wellbeing and health in
different population groups.
This is the first book in English to offer an overview of the
development of the sport industry in Spain and Portugal, examining
the social, economic, cultural, and political impact sport has had
in this region and on world sport more broadly. Drawing on sources
in Spanish and Portuguese, the book presents important new
perspectives and empirical material not previously available to
English-speaking audiences. With a strong focus on management,
development, economics, governance and law, set in a broader
historical and socio-cultural context, the book explains the unique
characteristics of the sport industry in the Iberian Peninsula. It
takes a deep dive into Spanish and Portuguese football - in many
ways the centre of gravity of Iberian sport - and into sport
tourism, a hugely significant component of the broader economy of
the region. The book also considers important emerging themes in
Iberian sport, from the development of women's sport to the global
profile of Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Nadal, and considers the
wider influence of Iberian sport across the wider Hispanic
diaspora. This is fascinating and illuminating reading for anybody
with an interest in sport business and management, global sporting
cultures, international business, or Hispanic or Latin American
studies.
The fitness sector is a growing economy where suppliers, managers
and consumers are in continuously evolving relationships, and in
which technology plays a key role in optimization. The Digital
Transformation of the Fitness Sector highlights the challenges and
opportunities of digitalization uncovered in the wake of recent
global challenges in countries around the world. The innovations
that have arisen during the COVID-19 pandemic have led to a digital
transformation of sports services: facilitating interactions
between trainers and consumers, establishing social media as a
means of boosting a sector already witnessing great growth, and
organising exercise spaces. Yet, as explored by the authors in this
edited collection, disparities in accessibility to economic and
digital resources that enable digitalization vary depending on the
providers, the managers, and the geographical situation facing the
organization. With contributions from leading academics and
professionals, The Digital Transformation of the Fitness Sector is
an excellent read for all practitioners working in fitness
technologies, sports marketing, sports management, researchers, and
students.
For decades, sports management has not been considered a priority
area of interest within sport, and there is a lack of
professionalization within the multiple approaches and key
performance areas in sports management. However, in recent years,
the importance and impact of the sports economy in the percentage
of GDP has coincided with an increase in the volume of literature
dedicated to the study of sports management, and specifically
around fitness centers, the commercialization of their services and
the loyalty chain of the users of this business model. The Global
Private Health & Fitness Business shows the globalization of
the health and fitness industry, and its different forms of
management according to different countries, the objective being to
show the various business models in the fitness industry in twenty
countries around the world and explore their methods of marketing.
The content will provide insight into the current situation and
what challenges it faces in the future. In addition to these
contexts, each chapter ends with the description of the main chains
in each country and information on the complexity in the
commercialization and loyalty of their services. This book provides
a great opportunity to further analyze sports management in
different countries, with contributions from leading academics and
professionals who share the current situation as well as the
challenges of the coming years, providing an excellent resource for
all practitioners working in sports management, researchers and
students with future projection towards this area.
