MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) undertook extensive excavations during the construction of two separate, but adjacent road schemes, some 4.5km apart near Houghton Regis and Toddington, in south Central Bedfordshire. Taken as a whole, the excavations provide a detailed multi-period dataset for regional and national comparison. The first evidence for occupation occurred in the middle/late Bronze Age comprising pits and clusters of postholes, including four-post and six-post structures. Two pit alignments, more than 2km apart, also indicate that land divisions were being established, and in the late Bronze Age/early Iron Age a significant new settlement emerged in the valley bottom. Parts of a further contemporary earlier-middle Iron Age settlement lay at the top of the valley but neither settlement extended into the Roman period. In the late Iron Age or early Roman period three or four new settlements emerged with occupation continuing into the late Roman period in at least one of these. Of particular interest was the recovery of two significant Aylesford-Swarling type cemeteries as well as a third cemetery which largely comprised unurned burials, including some busta, but with few accompanying grave goods. In the late 7th-century a small probable Christian conversion open-ground inhumation cemetery was established with burials accompanied by a range of objects, including a rare work box, knives, brooches, chatelaine keys and a spearhead. Parts of three medieval settlements were uncovered including one with a potters' working area.

The novel is based on truth and tells the story of a young man accused of a crime that he did not commit. It tells of bitter months of hatred towards his accuser, the judge and prison officials. He had nothing but hatred towards the system and was totally unhappy. It wasn't until he was able to forgive his accuser, his public defender and the judge that sentenced him to twenty years in prison that his life began to change. In time he became a model prisoner and was able to face his situation without hatred controlling him. His desire to clear his name and become a person of respectability generated thought of freedom and escape from prison. He dreamed of finding the guilty party and having the court reverse his conviction. His intentions were good, but the action he took branded him a "Prisoner on the run."

The 3rd Platoon was written by an Infantry Platoon Leader who was among the first American soldiers to see combat during the Korean conflict. War was never declared and the action taken was by United Nation Forces. The hostilities were considered to be only a police action in a effort to stop the spread of Communism. Priscilla, a young, wealthy Chicago widow and Tim, a poor Alabama soldier, will fall in love. This budding love affair has to wait, however, until Priscilla has proof that her attorney husband is dead. This gripping story about two individuals from different backgrounds brought together by bizarre events. Priscilla, beautiful, reared in wealth married in her teens to an older attorney, whose law practice, she found out later, was defending the social scum of the 1920s, crooked politicians, fight promoters and bank robbers. Tim comes from a hard-working, poor northeast Alabama farming folk. He is handsome and bright. As the plot unfolds, Priscilla's attorney husband is mysteriously killed and his body is never recovered. The suspected killers are found by the police in the Arizona desert. A gun battle with police ensues and one suspected killer dies. The other suspect is captured, but escapes and is recaptured two time before he is brought to trial. From the first meeting, Priscilla and Tim are attracted to each other. On one occasion, Priscilla gives Tim some law journals to read. In one of them, Tim finds the plans for a bank robbery. He begins to investigate the recent past and finds condemning answers. Tim is falling more deeply in love. Out of respect for her station in life, he keeps his tender feeling from Priscilla.
