Substance misuse and its pervasive problems is a constant challenge for social work, health and related professionals today. With heightened political and policy emphasis on all aspects of substance misuse, it is paramount that professionals remain up-to-date on current issues and their responsibilities. Based on research and evidence, this book provides a sound basis for grounded and innovative practice. Leading international contributors outline holistic and specialist approaches to policy and practice, and highlight the shift in emphasis from immediate risk minimisation to long-term recovery, the importance of prevention and the pivotal role of workforce development. Issues surrounding work with children and families affected by substance misuse are explored, and ways of implementing new approaches revealed. The book also looks at the impact of the smoking ban in Scotland, and suggests ways to support tobacco use cessation. This book is essential reading for all front-line practitioners working with substance misusers, including social work, health professionals and counsellors.
Connecting The Dots will astound the scientific community of all disciplines and religious people of all faiths. This publication contains an incredible, one-of-a-kind analysis that clearly demonstrates an amazing connection the Bible has with scientific facts. Faith in the Bible and a Supreme Intelligence has long been incompatible with the current scientific body of knowledge. For years, atheist, agnostics and evolutionists have dominated the stage of higher thinking, while believers in a Supreme Intelligence have made only cameo appearances. Connecting The Dots may help change those roles in the future. After reading this book, there may be some who are still not fully convinced. One thing is certain: it's unlikely that anyone would ever see this scientific connection in a million years Whether this connection is merely coincidental or purposely designed - you be the judge.
Military operations other than war (MOOTW) are becoming a more visible and frequently employed component of America's national security strategy. This project traces the evolution of MOOTW through the National Security Strategy statements of 1994, 1997, 1998 and the National Military Strategy statements of 1992, 1995 and 1997. Establishing a foundation in national security and military strategy, the project describes joint and Air Force doctrinal guidance on MOOTW. Joint Publication (JP) 3-07, Joint Doctrine for Military Operations Other Than War, requires the services employ a two-prong approach to MOOTW education and training (figure 3) and suggests some instructional methods to accomplish this training. Additionally, Air Force Doctrine Document (AFDD) 2-3, Military Operations Other Than War, also supports MOOTW education from officer accession through senior service school attendance. This project evaluates how well Air Force company grade officer professional military education complies with the JP 3-07 requirement to teach MOOTW principles, objectives, characteristics and planning and execution considerations. Resident and distance learning curricula are evaluated from the three associated PME courses conducted under the auspices of Air University, including the Aerospace Basic Course (ABC), Company Grade Officer Professional Development Course (CGOPDC) and Squadron Officer School (SOS).
