First published in 1570, Joachim Meyer's _The Art of Comba__t_ is
among the most important texts in the rich corpus of German martial
arts treatises of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Meyer is unique
in offering full recommendations on how to train for various
weapons forms. He divides his book into five parts by weapon types:
longsword; dusack (a practice weapon analogous to a sabre); rapier;
dagger; and staff weapons. For each weapon, Meyer lays out the
principles of its use and the vocabulary of techniques, and then
describes a range of specific 'devices', attack combinations for
use in combat. This rational approach, along with Meyer's famous
and profuse woodcut illustrations, make this a crucial source for
understanding the history and techniques of medieval and
Renaissance martial arts. In the first ever English translation of
this important work, Jeffrey Forgeng has sought to improve
accessibility of the text. His Introduction is the first
substantial account to be published in English of the German
Fechtbuch corpus, and the Glossary likewise is the first of its
kind to be published in English.

This book contains selected papers presented at the 17th IFIP WG
9.2, 9.6/11.7, 11.6/SIG 9.2.2 International Summer School on
Privacy and Identity Management, held online in August/September
2022. The 9 full papers and 5 workshop and tutorial papers included
in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 23
submissions. As in previous years, one of the goals of the IFIP
Summer School was to encourage the publication of thorough research
papers by students and emerging scholars. The papers combine
interdisciplinary approaches to bring together a host of
perspectives, such as technical, legal, regulatory, socio-economic,
social or societal, political, ethical, anthropological,
philosophical, or psychological perspectives.
Gastric Carcinoma/Classification, Diagnosis, and Therapy presents
the most current perspective on gastric carcinoma, with particular
emphasis on the surgical and chemotherapeutic modalities that offer
hope for future treatment. The book discusses epidemiology,
pathogenesis, and precancerous and clinical stage classification of
the disease and provides valid practical guidelines for
stage-specific diagnosis, therapy, and patient guidance. Topics
explored include endoscopic criteria for premalignant lesions and
early gastric carcinoma; clinical staging of gastric cancer by
ultrasound, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance
tomography; surgical treatment of carcinomas of the
gastroesophageal junction; possibilities for palliative treatment
in surgical practice for advanced tumors; adjuvant treatment of
gastric cancer; and chemotherapy of advanced gastric carcinomas in
elderly and high-risk patients.
Following the success of Jeffrey L. Forgeng's translation of
Joachim Meyer's The Art of Sword Combat the author was alerted to
an earlier recension of the work which was discovered in Lund
University Library in Sweden. The manuscript, produced in
Strassburg around 1568, is illustrated with thirty watercolour
images and seven ink diagrams. The text covers combat with the
longsword (hand-and-a-half sword), dusack (a one-handed practice
weapon comparable to a sabre), and rapier. The manuscript's
theoretical discussion of guards is one of the most critical
passages to understanding this key feature of the historical
practice, not just in relation to Meyer but in relation to the
medieval combat systems in general. The manuscript offers an
extensive repertoire of training drills for both the dusack and the
rapier, a feature largely lacking in treatises of the period as a
whole but critical to modern reconstructions of the practice. The
translation also includes a biography of Meyer, much of which has
only recently come to light, as well as technical terminology, and
other essential information for understanding and contextualizing
the work.
Immunmodulation bezuglich Prognose dargestellt.
Chirurgenschule (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover) dargestellt.
