Six months after the end of Wintersong, Liesl is working toward
furthering both her brother's and her own musical careers. Although
she is determined to look forward and not behind, life in the world
above is not as easy as Liesl had hoped. Her younger brother Josef
is cold, distant, and withdrawn, while Liesl can't forget the
austere young man she left beneath the earth, and the music he
inspired in her. When troubling signs arise that the barrier
between worlds is crumbling, Liesl must return to the Underground
to unravel the mystery of life, death, and the Goblin King-who he
was, who he is, and who he will be. What will it take to break the
old laws once and for all? What is the true meaning of sacrifice
when the fate of the world-or the ones Liesl loves-is in her hands?
Sailor Moon meets Cinder in this first entry in a new, richly
imagined fantasy series full of romance, adventure and kick-a**
heroines, from the author of New York Times bestselling debut
Wintersong! Magic flickers. Love flames. Chaos reigns. Magic is
forbidden throughout the Morning Realms. Magicians are called
abomination, and blamed for the plague of monsters that razed the
land twenty years before. Jin Zhara already had enough to worry
about-appease her stepmother's cruel whims, looking after her blind
younger sister, and keeping her own magical gifts under
control-without having to deal with rumours of monsters re-emerging
in the marsh. But when a chance encounter with an easily flustered
young man named Han brings her into contact with a secret magical
liberation organisation called the Guardians of Dawn, Zhara
realises there may be more to these rumours than she thought. A
mysterious plague is corrupting the magicians of Zanhei and
transforming them into monsters, and the Guardians of Dawn believe
a demon is responsible. In order to restore harmony and bring peace
to the world, Zhara must discover the elemental warrior within,
lest the balance between order and chaos is lost forever.

The Origin and Evolution of Galaxies is the outstanding problem of
modern cosmology. Fortunately. we have a firm cosmological
framework on which to base our theories (the hot big bang) and
recently there has been substantial progress in providing
observations which potentially can constrain these theories. The
problem of galaxy formation is. as a consequence. one involving
many diverse branches of physics and astrophysics. It has been the
aim of the school. and this compendium of lectures and seminars. to
bring together these diverse aspects at a level enabling research
workers to understand what is going on in other corners of the
subject and to see how progress in each area impinges on the
others. We are grateful to the contributors to this volume for
allowing us considerable editorial license with their articles. We
have attempted to provide a representative sample of the talks that
were given at the school besides the texts of the invited
lecturers. It is regrettable that for reasons of space we have had
to leave out a number of other contributions.

ROBOT PROGRAMMING ITH YOUR OWN FREE VIRTUAL 'BOT! This ingenious
book/Web site partnership teaches the skills you need to program a
robot -- and gives you a virtual robot waiting online to perform
your commands and test your programming expertise. You don't need
to know either robotics or programming to get started! Using an
intuitive method, Robot Programming deconstructs robot control into
simple and distinct behaviors that are easy to program and debug
for inexpensive microcontrollers with little memory. Once you've
mastered programming your online 'bot, you can easily adapt your
programs for use in physical robots. Though Robot Programming
smoothes the path to acquiring skills in this arcane art, it does
not reduce it to simplistics. With this resource, you can open the
door to all the complexity, sophistication, versatility, and
robustness that it is possible for robot behavior to exhibit. WHAT
DO YOU WANT YOUR ROBOT TO DO? Robot Programming's hands-on approach
to behavior-based robotics-- * Teaches you intuitively, with a
system that integrates explanation, code examples, and exercises
using an online robot simulator * Demonstrates programming for
mobile robots * Gives you the tools to combine sensors with robot
skills * Shows you how to develop new robot behaviors by
manipulating old ones and adjusting programming parameters *
Provides examples of programming for object seeking, object
avoidance, decision-making, and much more * Leads you to advanced
strategies for designing your own behavior-based systems from
scratch * Introduces the history and theory behind behavior-based
programming * Requires no background in either programming or
robotics
