The Fundamentals of Human Embryology covers embryonic development, with a unique focus on adult anatomy.
Its goal is to impart to students a comprehensive overview of how the human embryo forms, not only as a basis for the student of human anatomy, but also as a link to abnormalities they may encounter in their clinical careers. Extensively illustrated with labeled line drawings, now enlarged for better visibility, this concise manual will meet the needs of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Human Sciences.
In this Second Edition of the manual at the request of students and teachers, the authors have made the following changes:
- Increased the size of the diagrams
- Revised the text to comply with the Federative International Committee on Anatomical Terminology changes to the Terminologia Embryologica
- Altered the sequencing of some topics to allow the development to flow more logically
- Included an appendix of coloured photographs of congenital abnormalities to help students form a more realistic idea of developmental abnormalities.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Essays on the development of the post-medieval house, its contents
and decoration. During the last forty years, South-West England has
been the focus of some of the most significant work on the early
modern house and household in Britain. Its remarkable wealth of
vernacular buildings has been the object of muchattention, while
the area has also seen productive excavations of early modern
household goods, shedding new light on domestic history. This
collection of papers, written by many of the leading specialists in
these fields, presents a number of essays summarizing the overall
understanding of particular themes and places, alongside case
studies which publish some of the most remarkable discoveries. They
include the extraordinary survival of wall-hangings in a South
Devon farm, the discovery of painted rooms in an Elizabethan town
house, and a study of a table-setting mirrored on its ceiling. Also
considered are forms of decoration which seem specific to
particular areas of the West Country houses. Taken together, the
papers offer a holistic view of the household in the early modern
period. John Allan is Consultant Archaeologist to the Dean &
Chapter of Exeter Cathedral; Nat Alcock is EmeritusReader in the
Department of Chemistry, University of Warwick; David Dawson is an
independent archaeologist and museum and heritage consultant.

The divide between liberal and postliberal theology is one of the
most important and far-reaching methodological disputes in
twentieth-century theology. Their divergence in method brought
related differences in their approaches to hermeneutics and
religious language. This split in the understanding of religious
language is widely acknowledged, but rigorous philosophical
analysis and assessment of it is seldom seen.
Liberalism versus Postliberalism provides such analyses, using the
developments in analytic philosophy of language over the past forty
years. The book provides an original reading of the "theology and
falsification" debates of the 1950s and 60s, and Knight's
interpretation of the debates supplies a philosophical lens that
brings into focus the centrality of religious language in the
methodological dispute between liberal and postliberal theologians.
Knight suggests that recent philosophical developments reveal
problems with both positions and argues for a more inclusive method
that takes seriously the aspirations of the debaters. His book
makes an important contribution to contemporary theological method,
to the understanding of liberal and postliberal theologies, and to
our understanding of the role of analytic philosophy in
contemporary theology and religious studies.

Practical Anatomy is designed to enable novice anatomists to grasp
the biological background of the human anatomy while understanding
its complexity within the clinical context. As a guide to the
dissection of the human cadaver, it provides an account of the
biological and systemic foundations of the human body. In keeping
with the tradition of its predecessor this revised edition is
primarily aimed at undergraduate allied health sciences and medical
students who are encountering dissection for the first time and are
intimidated by the volume of information to be understood. In
addition, some dissections of more complex regions of the anatomy
have been integrated into the text for more advanced students. This
version has built on the solid foundation of the first edition of
Practical Anatomy and Man’s Anatomy, incorporating all the
features unique to these texts while updating the methodology and
including the latest anatomical terminology as outlined in the
Terminologia Anatomica. The text and illustrations have been
simplified to provide a clear, concise and accessible dissection
guide.
