Pappy: The Gentle Bear is the story of a coach who won chapionships
at Kansas State, Northwestern and Cal, then moved on to the San
Francisco 49'ers as personnel guru. He became perhaps the most
important catalyst for coooperation between university communities
and the fledgiling NFL.
James Salerno, Boxer is a hard hitting true story in the mold of a
Greek tragedy, with the world of the fight game as its backdrop. It
pulls no punches in describing Salerno's wars in the ring, his
experiences with the women he encountered and the battles he fought
with his personal demons. It also provides insight into the world
of professional boxing. In addition, it examines the complex
personality of a loving, sensitive white male who had the soul of a
black fighter and became a rap performer known as Italian Ice after
his days in the ring were over. He is recognized as the greatest
boxer who never won a championship, and was inducted into the
Florida Boxing Hall of Fame in June, 2014. James was murdered at
the age of thirty eight, but he became a legend... and legends
never die.
Justin Smith is an African-American male in his late 20's. He is a
former college football player who earned his degree and
established a small marketing business. He had an off and on
relationship with a woman for several years and at one point
provided her with fraudulent transcripts which she used to obtain a
Bachelor's degree. During an argument, she hit him in the head with
a baseball bat. He tried to escape by driving off in her vehicle.
She hopped in the passenger seat and then inexplicably jumped out
of the vehicle while it was still moving. He was later arrested on
the charge of attempted murder and had to spend seven months in the
Los Angeles County Jail. While incarcerated, he had to fight gang
bangers in order to defend himself. His chance of acquittal was two
out of a hundred, but thanks to the work of compassionate public
defender Ann Haigwood, Justin was found not guilty. This is a true
story. His trial took place in October, 2010. What happened to
Justin could happen to anyone. It is a call for everyone to stop
and think before they act, and hopefully avoid making choices that
could ruin their lives.
This is the shocking story of how I survived incest and rape and
achieved healing and recovery. There are few darker figures in
human history than the father who rapes his own daughters. I, along
with my two sisters, was subjected to years of sexual abuse by our
father from the age of three to early adulthood. I was also
violently and forcefully raped by a neighborhood thug who went on
to rape and murder a young mother a few months later. I am sharing
my experiences and pain with others in the hope that my tale will
let others know that they are not alone, and that they can succeed
in fulfilling their lives. Some of the images projected by this
book may seem graphic, disgusting or horrific. There is no
adjective to describe the torment and anguish that three innocent
girls were forced to live with for their entire lives. This book is
an examination of psychological terrorism and a look into the
darkened bedrooms of America. It is also a journey into the darkest
side of human nature. The broken lives, stolen innocence and
betrayal of trust is overshadowed by a far greater tragedy. The
failure to protect me and my sisters from the deprivations of a
very sick man is one thing. The fact that he got away with it is
another. This book is also a tale of hope, for I was one of the
lucky ones who achieved healing and recovery. If my story gives
even just one victim hope and inspiration ato move on, then I will
count it as a personal victory.
