This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th IFIP WG 8.1 Working Conference on Method Engineering, ME 2011, held in Paris, France, in April 2011. The 13 revised full papers and 6 short papers presented together with the abstracts of two keynote talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 30 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on situated method engineering, method engineering foundations, customized methods, tools for method engineering, new trends to build methods, and method engineering services.
While previously available methodologies for software - like those published in the early days of object technology - claimed to be appropriate for every conceivable project, situational method engineering (SME) acknowledges that most projects typically have individual characteristics and situations. Thus, finding the most effective methodology for a particular project needs specific tailoring to that situation. Such a tailored software development methodology needs to take into account all the bits and pieces needed for an organization to develop software, including the software process, the input and output work products, the people involved, the languages used to describe requirements, design, code, and eventually also measures of success or failure. The authors have structured the book into three parts. Part I deals with all the basic concepts, terminology and overall ideas underpinning situational method engineering. As a summary of this part, they present a formal meta-model that enables readers to create their own quality methods and supporting tools. In Part II, they explain how to implement SME in practice, i.e., how to find method components and put them together and how to evaluate the resulting method. For illustration, they also include several industry case studies of customized or constructed processes, highlighting the impact that high-quality engineered methods can have on the success of an industrial software development. Finally, Part III summarizes some of the more recent and forward-looking ideas. This book presents the first summary of the state of the art for SME. For academics, it provides a comprehensive conceptual framework and discusses new research areas. For lecturers, thanks to its step-by-step explanations from basics to the customization and quality assessment of constructed methods, it serves as a solid basis for comprehensive courses on the topic. For industry methodologists, it offers a reference guide on features and technologies to consider when developing in-house software development methods or customising and adopting off-the-shelf ones.
Requirements engineering has since long acknowledged the importance of the notion that system requirements are stakeholder goals-rather than system functions-and ought to be elicited, modeled and analyzed accordingly. In this book, Nurcan and her co-editors collected twenty contributions from leading researchers in requirements engineering with the intention to comprehensively present an overview of the different perspectives that exist today, in 2010, on the concept of intention in the information systems community. These original papers honor Colette Rolland for her contributions to this field, as she was probably the first to emphasize that 'intention' has to be considered as a first-class concept in information systems engineering. Written by long-term collaborators (and most often friends) of Colette Rolland, this volume covers topics like goal-oriented requirements engineering, model-driven development, method engineering, and enterprise modeling. As such, it is a tour d'horizon of Colette Rolland's lifework, and is presented to her on the occasion of her retirement at CaISE 2010 in Hammamet, the conference she once cofounded and which she helped to grow and prosper for more than 20 years.
This book contains the papers from the IFIP Working Group 8.1 conference on Situational Method Engineering. Over the last decade, Method Engineering, defined as the engineering discipline to design, construct and adapt methods, including supportive tools, has emerged as the research and application area for using methods for systems development.
This volume constitutes the proceedings of the 8th IFIP WG 8.1 Conference on the Practice of Enterprise Modeling held in November 2015 in Valencia, Spain. The PoEM conference series started in 2008 and aims to provide a forum sharing knowledge and experiences between the academic community and practitioners from industry and the public sector. The 23 short papers accepted were carefully reviewed and selected from 72 submissions and are organized in eight sections on Evolving Enterprises, Securing Enterprises, Making Empirical Studies, Investigating Enterprise Methods, Acquiring User Information, Managing Risks and Threats, Engineering Methods, and Making Decisions in Enterprises.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2012, held in Gdansk, Poland, in June 2012. The 42 revised full papers, 2 full-length invited papers and 4 short tutorial papers, were carefully reviewed and selected from 297 submissions. The contributions have been grouped into the following topical sections: business process model analysis; service and component composition; language and models; system variants and configuration; process mining; ontologies; requirements and goal models; compliance; monitoring and prediction; services; case studies; business process design; feature models and product lines; and human factors.

The discipline of Services Science, introduced by IBM in 2002, has emerged and matured in a true transdisciplinary atmosphere. Encompassing disciplines not only in management and engineering, it also draws from disciplines such as social and cog- tive sciences, law, ethics, economics etc. to address the theoretical and practical - pects of the challenging services industry and its economy. Services Science leverages methods, results and knowledge stemming from these disciplines towards the development of its own concepts, methods, techniques and approaches thus creating the basis for true trans-disciplinary gatherings and the p- duction of transdisciplinary results. Services Science is building a concrete framework for transdisciplinary purposes. IESS1. 0 - the First International Conference on Exploring Services Science - was the first international conference held in Europe in this domain. The conference took place during February 17-19, 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland. The goal of the conf- ence was to build upon the growing community to further study and understand this emerging discipline. Academics, researchers and practitioners of all disciplines were invited to contribute their results and approaches to Services Science in a tra- disciplinary setting. In order to achieve the best possible mix of disciplines and their representation, the conference call for papers was structured around transdisciplinary service research topics including service innovation, service exploration, service - sign, service engineering, and service sustainability, and around more disciplinary oriented service contexts such as: sectors and services, IT and services, foundations of services science, and governance and management.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 41st International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2022, held in Hyderabad, India, in October 2022. The 19 full and 11 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 82 submissions. The papers are organzed in the following topical sections: foundations of conceptual modeling; ontologies and their applications; applications of conceptual modeling; data modeling and analysis; business process; quality and performance; security, privacy and risk management; goals and requirements.
