A reappraisal of Sir Anthony Eden's conduct of foreign relations during the Suez crisis of 1956, This book challenges previous assumptions and demonstrates that Eden was not as bellicose as has been alleged. It traces his conduct of crisis management, from July until his decision to use force on 14 October, focusing on the Prime Minister's personality and influences. It details the confusion and failed attempts at negotiation that eventually culminated in the reluctant gamble.
When predictions of Einstein's theory of General Relativity are
compared against observations of our Universe, a huge inconsistency
is found. The most popular fix for this inconsistency is to
"invent" around 94% of the content of the universe: dark matter and
dark energy. The dark energy is some exotic substance responsible
for the apparent observed acceleration of the Universe. Another fix
is to modify the theory of gravity: it is entirely plausible that
Einstein's theory of General Relativity breaks down on cosmological
scales, just as Newton's theory of gravity breaks down in the
extreme gravitational field of the Sun. There are many alternative
theories of gravity, each with the aim of describing observations
of our Universe where General Relativity fails. Whether it is dark
energy or some modified theory of gravity, it is clear that there
is some "dark sector" in the Universe. In this thesis the author
constructs a unifying framework for understanding the observational
impact of general classes of dark sector theories, by formulating
equations of state for the dark sector perturbations.

Covid-19 has shown how vulnerable society, our economy, and
day-to-day lives are to illness, but despite this we have not yet
valued the pivotal role of good health. Our healthcare system is
now an illness service with little resilience, importing illness
rather than exporting health into communities, not leveraging the
digital technology innovations harnessed in other industries. Whose
Health Is It, Anyway? outlines why health is truly our most
untapped opportunity for prosperity and happiness in the 21st
century, individually and jointly as whole nations. Through
collectively valuing health - civil society and the private sector
- we can radically change the wider health environment which will
pay off for all. This book outlines how a 21st century healthcare
system should expand the founding principles of the NHS, from
illness to a true health service, and encompass a National Care
Service. The authors outline the entities and processes that could
underpin a new total health system, one that could serve to take us
into a happier and more prosperous future.

This is an extensive collection of genealogies of the first
settlers of Schenectady, tracing families in the direct male line
for at least three generations. The compiler based his research, in
large part, on the baptism and marriage registers of the First
Reformed Church of Schenectady but otherwise drew on records of the
Secretary of State of New York, the Clerks of the City and County
of Albany, and the Court of Appeals. The result is a genealogical
compendium of unimpeachable authority.
