Coverage of heritage and archeology in formal education is
typically limited. These subjects are typically taught through
specific and anecdotal activities that do not respond to a specific
methodological foundation. School-museum relationships offer
numerous benefits for design participation experiences with
long-term perspectives in conducting systematic activities. The
collaboration between the museum and school should be considered a
maxim for the development of teaching-learning processes of history
based on the students' investigation of their own reality and the
immediate context of a lived culture using the archaeological
heritage. School-Museum Relationships and Teaching Social Sciences
in Formal Education paves the way for collaboration between museums
and schools as a rule of conduct for the development of teaching
and learning processes for the social sciences. This book focuses,
from within the field of formal education, on the spaces in which
learning takes place (school and archeological museums) to
establish proposals for improvement in the teaching and learning of
history, taking heritage education as a point of reference and
heritage as a teaching resource. Covering topics such as
interactive collaborative models, teaching and learning
improvement, and the school-museum educational projects, this
premier reference source is an excellent resource for museum
educators, directors, educators and administrators of both K-12 and
higher education, pre-service teachers, teacher educators,
government officials, librarians, researchers, and academicians.
One major challenge facing modern medicine is to fulfill the
promise and potential of the enormous increase in medical data sets
of all kinds. Medical Applications of Intelligent Data Analysis:
Research Advancements explores the potential of utilizing this
medical data through the implementation of developed models in
practical applications. This premier reference source features
chapters contributed by specialists in a variety of intelligent
data analysis (IDA) fields related to medicine, health, and
bioinformatics. All of these contributions are devoted to
describing the practical medical applications of IDA and how the
theory described in many other books can be implemented to improve
medical care.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
This book project highlights creative approaches to planning and
local development. The dynamic complexity, diversity and fluidity
which characterize contemporary society represent challenges for
planning and development endeavours. While research and policy work
has extensively focused on large cities and on metropolitan
regions, there has been relatively little work on 'smaller places'.
This book shows that if these new challenges affect all places and
regions, small and medium-sized towns (SMSTs) are suffering many
specific problems that call imperatively for the design and
implementation of very imaginative, creative approaches to planning
and local development. What could enhance creativity in local
development and planning? Is it possible to talk about creative
capacity building at the level of a town that might release
imaginative and innovative activities? Under what local and
non-local conditions is creativity being initiated and flourishing?
What are the major obstacles and in what way can these be contained
in order to safeguard pockets of creative action? Interdisciplinary
and with case studies from France, Norway and other European
countries, this volume presents a wide range of approaches and
territorial contexts of small cities and towns in which spatial
dynamics and the consequences of the city-region for urban planning
theory and practice in Europe are highlighted, with a special focus
on the challenges for - and understanding of - planning and
development of SMSTs. It provides a significant body of critical,
comparative and contextual perspectives on the quest for urban
sustainability and resilience in SMSTs, therefore emphasizing
collaborative and potentially innovative approaches that can be
detected, but also the shortcomings, pitfalls and 'traps' that can
lie behind the approaches aimed at concerting ecological, economic,
and socio-cultural concerns, and the discourses promoting them.

No One Ever Really Leaves Key West.
In a hotel, on the northeast side of Key West, Florida, Erin
Hardinger is beginning spring break
without her medications. For the first time in more than a decade,
she is seeing the world
without the pharmaceutical filter that her mother placed on her as
a child. Beneath the surface
of the mundane and absurd fixtures of Key West's tourist trade, a
world of the living and the
dead confronts Erin at every turn. The torn edges of perception and
reality soon spill over into
the lives of her companions and strangers; a crooked doctor on the
run from the mob, the panic
stricken wife of a retired optometrist, and a group of college
students all find the edges of their
reality blurred. Is it Erin's awakening that is causing this, or
is it the hotel,
" or is it Key West itself?"
