Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Colorectal Cancer Screening provides a complete overview of
colorectal cancer screening, from epidemiology and molecular
abnormalities, to the latest screening techniques such as stool DNA
and FIT, Computerized Tomography (CT) Colonography, High Definition
Colonoscopes and Narrow Band Imaging. As the text is devoted
entirely to CRC screening, it features many facts, principles,
guidelines and figures related to screening in an easy access
format. This volume provides a complete guide to colorectal cancer
screening which will be informative to the subspecialist as well as
the primary care practitioner. It represents the only text that
provides this up to date information about a subject that is
continually changing. For the primary practitioner, information on
the guidelines for screening as well as increasing patient
participation is presentedd. For the subspecialist, information
regarding the latest imaging techniques as well as flat adenomas
and chromoendoscopy are covered. The section on the molecular
changes in CRC will appeal to both groups. The text includes up to
date information about colorectal screening that encompasses the
entire spectrum of the topic and features photographs of polyps as
well as diagrams of the morphology of polyps as well as photographs
of CT colonography images. Algorithms are presented for all the
suggested guidelines. Chapters are devoted to patient participation
in screening and risk factors as well as new imaging technology.
This useful volume explains the rationale behind screening for CRC.
In addition, it covers the different screening options as well as
the performance characteristics, when available in the literature,
for each test. This volume will be used by the sub specialists who
perform screening tests as well as primary care practitioners who
refer patients to be screened for colorectal cancer.
The conquest of India -- the destruction of the MahrattasThis is
continuing the story of Joseph Anderson, whose early career during
the Napoleonic Wars was told in the Leonaur book Fighting
Napoleon's Empire. At the commencement of this book we fifi nd
Anderson engaged as the Governor of a prison colony in Australia
before he is posted to India. There, with the 50th Regt. of Foot,
he is soon sent to Burma. Through Anderson's writing we are given a
view of military life and campaigning in the early Victorian
period, in which many familiar personalities and regiments feature.
In 1843 Anderson, by now a Brigadier, was engaged in the Gwalior
War against the Mahrattas at the Battle of Punniar.
FIGHTING NAPOLEON'S EMPIRE. The Napoleonic Wars - A truly Worldwide
conflict. When Joseph Anderson joined the British Army to fight the
French he little realised that his service would find him in action
across the globe. The rarely reported expedition to southern Italy
found him with his regiment - the 78th - engaged in the brilliant
action at Maida. Next came Egypt and the investment of Rosetta.
Protracted war in the Iberian Peninsula required many regiments and
the 78th was one of them. After some of his greatest challenges he
then travelled across the Atlantic to the West Indies. This book
recounts Anderson's experiences in an unusual and varied sequence
of campaigns and battles from the Napoleonic period and includes a
brief history of each of them to provide historical context.
Joseph Anderson (1832-1916), curator of the National Museum of
Antiquities of Scotland, edited this version of the saga of the
earls of Orkney, translated by Jon Hjaltalin and Gilbert Goudie,
and published in 1873. Anderson (whose works on the archaeology of
Scotland from the Stone Age to the early Christian era are also
reissued in this series) provides a lengthy introduction to the
saga, discussing the geography of the islands, and using literary
and archaeological material to put the work, which is written in
Icelandic and dates from between 1170 and 1220, in context. The
first Viking incursions into the islands began in the late eighth
century, and the Norwegian king Harald Fairhair gave Orkney to the
first earl, Rognvald Eysteinsson, in compensation for the death of
his son, in about 870. Anderson also provides notes to the
translation, and an appendix with further material from the
Icelandic Flateyjarbok.
