Emotions, creativity, aesthetics, artistic behavior, divergent
thoughts, and curiosity are both fundamental to the human
experience and instrumental in the development of human-centered
artificial intelligence systems that can relate, communicate, and
understand human motivations, desires, and needs. In this book the
editors put forward two core propositions: creative artistic
behavior is one of the key challenges of artificial intelligence
research, and computer-assisted creativity and human-centered
artificial intelligence systems are the driving forces for research
in this area. The invited chapters examine computational creativity
and more specifically systems that exhibit artistic behavior or can
improve humans' creative and artistic abilities. The authors
synthesize and reflect on current trends, identify core challenges
and opportunities, and present novel contributions and applications
in domains such as the visual arts, music, 3D environments, and
games. The book will be valuable for researchers, creatives, and
others engaged with the relationship between artificial
intelligence and the arts.
This book adopts an innovative historical approach to Terrorism,
focusing on the weaknesses of terrorist states and organizations as
reflected in the ideologies, methodologies and propaganda of
Russian populist, National Socialist and Islamic Terrorism. Drawing
upon multilingual primary sources, the book challenges the oft
repeated claim that the Nazi regime and Islamic State produced
propaganda of superior quality, instead arguing that the
manipulation of information is the Achilles heel of terrorist
organizations. It offers a critical examination of the fears of
terrorists themselves, as opposed to the traditional focus on the
fear instilled by terrorist organizations in governments and
citizens. Taking a multidisciplinary approach and long-term history
perspective, the book provides a method for exploring the minds of
terrorists and the inner workings of their organizations and traces
the evolution of terrorist thought and methodology across time and
place. This is the ideal volume for researchers of Terrorism within
the fields of History, Politics, Security Studies, Religious
Studies and Legal Studies.

In the early hours of July 14, 1958, Iraqi military officers
overthrew the British-installed Iraqi monarchy. The Free Officers
coup initiated an era of military and subsequently Ba'thist rule
that only ended with the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Historians are at variance over the nature of what is called the
Iraqi Revolution in the Arab world. Some scholars argue that the
overthrow was merely a coup d'etat orchestrated by the Free
Officers Movement. Other analysts contend that the overthrow
constituted a real revolution. Very few works, if any, provide a
detailed analysis in support of the "revolutionary" argument. Dr.
Romero's book advances the argument that the events of July 14
simultaneously constituted a coup and a revolution for a number of
reasons, including military involvement, popular participation, and
policies that radically departed from those of the previous regime.

Evolutionary computation (EC) techniques are e?cient
nature-inspired pl- ning and optimization methods based on the
principles of natural evolution and genetics. Due to their e?ciency
and the simple underlying principles, these methods can be used for
a large number of problems in the context of problem solving,
optimization, andmachinelearning. Alargeandcontinuouslyincreasing
number of researchers and practitioners make use of EC techniques
in many - plication domains. The book at hand presents a careful
selection of relevant EC applications combined with thorough
examinations of techniques for a successful application of EC. The
presented papers illustrate the current state of the art in the
application of EC and should help and inspire researchers and
practitioners to develop e?cient EC methods for design and problem
solving. All papers in this book were presented during EvoWorkshops
2005, which was a varying collection of workshops on
application-oriented aspects of EC. Since 1999, the format of the
EvoWorkshops has proved to be very successful and well
representative of the advances in the application of EC.
Consequently, over the last few years, EvoWorkshops has become one
of the major events addressing the application of EC. In contrast
to other large conferences in the EC ?eld, the EvoWorkshops focus
solely on application aspects of EC and are an important link
between EC research and the application of EC in a large variety of
di?erent domain
