Ending Cycles of Violence II adds the story of the mostly peaceful
2013 election and the work of Quakers to make it so. Citizen
reporters were trained and observed throughout the campaign and
made their reports anonymously via text messages (SMS). Voter
education prepared the voters for all the changes ensuing from the
new Kenya constitution. Accredited election observers reported on
the election itself. The extensive community peacemaking through
trauma healing workshops especially concentrated in the Mt. Elgon
area was thoroughly assessed with findings that were
"overwhelmingly positive, making it clear that AGLI/FCPT/CAPI/TTT
programmes have bettered the lives of individuals on Mt. Elgon.
Beyond the Growth Dilemma: Toward an Ecologically Integrated
Economy calls attention to the enormous dilemma we face. While the
U.S. economy in its current form needs growth to prosper, more
growth makes the rich richer while unemployment, hunger, and
violence are widespread, and human economies are already larger
than Earth can continue to support. This sixth Quaker Institute for
the Future pamphlet builds a framework for the changes that are
needed for an ecologically integrated economy. This kind of economy
leads to prosperous and thriving lives for humans and other
creatures within the limits of planet Earth. Our society's basic
goal must change from "more" to "enough." Changes in the way we
earn our livelihoods, organize and carry out production, and govern
the commons are all discussed.
In Fueling Our Future, Quakers expert in both the technical and
ethical issues, provide key information, critical analysis and
thoughtful dialogue on choices for our energy future. Fueling Our
Future will assist concerned citizens in their evaluation of public
policy and personal choices.
