What are the experiences of faculty of color at traditionally white
institutions (TWIs) of higher education (IHE)? In what ways do
faculty of color at TWIs of IHE cope with/handle struggles/defeats
and successes in the workplace? In what ways can college/university
administrators and colleagues support and retain faculty of color?
This book seeks to answer these questions and address issues of
recruitment, retention, and support of faculty members of color.
Additionally, the editors hope to provide insight into the higher
education experiences of faculty of color to their colleagues and
administrators. It is our hope that renewed understanding of these
experiences will positively influence levels and quality of
support.
Culture or Chaos in the Village: The Journey to Cultural Fluency
seeks to provide a framework for examination of the factors that
influence mediation of culture in the minds of teachers. The text
moves in a manner that sets the tone for a courageous conversation.
It is the intent of this book to facilitate a focused conversation,
discussing the factors of race, class, and gender in conjunction
with personal and professional belief systems of educators,
preservice and inservice.
Readers of this book will learn how to create and/or examine
critical issues about culture and beliefs and the way these issues
influence perceptions on how diverse learners experience learning.
This book motivates the reader to examine, their own biases about
instructional choices in the context of culture in classrooms.
