"Wake of the Wind Dancer" was written from a daily accounting of
the journey that Karl Adams took across America in his kayak, the
Wind Dancer, and on foot. He followed or closely paralleled the
path of seven of America's early explorers; Lewis and Clark among
them. He is the only person known to have covered this entire route
by boat and on foot, with no support team or power other than the
energy supplied by his own body.
Each stroke of his paddles brought an ever changing, panoramic
view and a different and challenging adventure; at times humorous
and at other times perilous, sometimes even life threatening. When
he ran out of waterways he walked, pulling the kayak behind him for
three hundred and fifty miles. He took pictures of the interesting
and beautiful sights along the way which he used to create a
travelogue of his journey to show to his family and friends at the
end of his year of travels. Wake of the Wind Dancer is a
stimulating, photographic narrative that provides a valuable
historical record of his exciting and sometimes harrowing year-long
adventure from Oregon to Florida on foot and by kayak

In this book, Karl Adam seeks to identify the "spirit" or essence
of Roman Catholicism. He gives particular weight to the doctrine of
the Mystical Body of Christ, which he considers crucial to the
problems of the present age, when mankind is desperately seeking a
principle of unity and authentic community. There is a place these
divinely established bonds can be found - the Church - and this
locus of mankind's spiritual unity sheds light on all of Catholic
belief and practice: the Papacy, the communion of Saints, the
Church Militant, Suffering, and Triumphant, the means of salvation,
the necessity of the sacraments, the universality and authority of
the Church, and much else.
The Spirit of Catholicism is an accessible, articulate, and
compelling presentation of the fundamental tenets of the Catholic
faith, explaining to all - Catholic and non-Catholic alike -
exactly what the Church represents. Its thirteen illuminating
chapters comprise one of the finest works of Catholic apologetics
written in the last 100 years, and are must-reading for anyone
wishing to more deeply appreciate and comprehend the riches of
Catholicism.

In this book, Adam revived the Pauline understanding of the church
as the mystical Body of Christ, showed how one could incorporate
new forms of thought in Catholic theology rather than rely
exclusively on scholastic language, and envisioned the Catholic
faith coming to expression within non-Western cultures.
