Loki, ever the shapeshifter, has never been more adaptable across pop culture. Whether it's deep in the stories from Norse mythology, the countless offshoots and intepretations across media, or even the prolific Loki that has come to dominate our screens via the Marvel Cinematic Universe, each serves its own purpose and offers a new layer to the character we've come to know so well. By exploring contemporary variations of Loki from Norse god to anti-hero trickster in four distinct categories - the God of Knots, Mischief, Outcasts and Stories - we can better understand the power of myth, queer theory, fandom, ritual, pop culture itself and more. Johnson invites readers to journey with him as he unpicks his own evolving relationship with Loki, and to ask: Who is your Loki? And what is their glorious purpose?
Mike Leigh writes and directs this Academy Award-nominated biographical drama about British artist J.M.W. Turner, who is here portrayed by Timothy Spall. The film explores the last 25 years or so of Turner's life in which he suffers greatly after the loss of his beloved father William (Paul Jesson) and has relations with his housekeeper Hannah Danby (Dorothy Atkinson) and, later, landlady Sophia Booth (Marion Bailey), who he lives with in Chelsea until his death. During this time he refuses to acknowledge the existence of his two illegitimate daughters Evelina (Sandy Foster) and Georgiana (Amy Dawson) and develops his painting style, which is often both praised and criticised. The cast also includes Lesley Manville, Karl Johnson and Ruth Sheen.
All four episodes of the Channel 4 psychological drama about a troubled teenager. On the surface, 16-year-old Sam Woodford (Jack Rowan) is a well-adjusted, normal teenager who enjoys sports, gets by at school, has a good relationship with his mother Jenny (Romola Garai) and takes good care of patients in a geriatric ward where he works part-time. However, he puts in a lot of practice behind closed doors to maintain his charming facade for reasons which remain unclear. As he tries to get closer to the new girl at school, Chrissy (Lara Peake), it's not long before Sam's psychopathic tendencies reveal themselves while Jenny tries her best to protect both her son and herself from a violent figure from her past.
"Johnson details exciting anecdotes of scams, hoaxes, and instances
of conjuring . . . His stories unfold like magic." --David Blaine,
