In view of the fact that, by 2050, 70% of the world’s population will live in cities, the subject of "sustainable urban design" is an important issue for UNESCO’s Cities of Design. Taking into account that urban design can make a significant contribution to positive changes in environmental and social matters, the book presents seven inspirational examples for copying; included are analyses and measures for the cities of Detroit, Graz, Istanbul, Mexico City, and Puebla, as well as non-location bound projects. Scenography of a visitor center The Old Town of Regensburg is an outstanding example of a medieval German trading city, and was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2007. The specially designed World Heritage Visitor Centre Regensburg, which opened in 2011, showcases the urban development of this city, shaped by its economy, resilience, and citizenry, using the latest methods of presentation and communication. The book is the result of a joint initiative between the Visitor Center and FH JOANNEUM University of Applied Sciences in Graz, presenting a best-practice example of exhibition design and scenography.
