This book analyzes how the socio-demographic and cultural diversity of societies affect the social interactions and attitudes of individuals and groups within them. Focusing on Germany, where in some cities more than one third of the population are first or second-generation immigrants, it examines how this phenomenon impacts on the ways in which urban residents interact, form friendships, and come to trust or resent each other. The authors, a distinguished team of sociologists, political scientists, social psychologists, anthropologists and geographers, present the results of their wide-ranging empirical research, which combines a 3-wave-panel survey, qualitative fieldwork, area explorations and analysis of official data. In doing so, they offer representative findings and deeper insights into how residents experience different neighbourhood contexts. Their conclusions are a significant contribution to our understanding of the implications of immigration and diversity, and of the conditions and consequences of intergroup interaction. This ground-breaking work will appeal to scholars across the Social Sciences.

As departure point for this work Katharina Schmid makes reference to the overriding importance of European Union legislation and the EU political system to all businesses operating in Europe. This book, after a preliminary analysis of the "Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe," aims to answer the questions, in how far business interests did take part in the establishment of the "EU Constitution" and what effects the treaty would have on the system of business interest representation in Europe. In the appraisal the author distinguishes two primary factors determining the ability of business interests to exert influence. Firstly, the new balance of power between member states and the EU institutions and among the EU bodies themselves is being analysed. Following this, the system of interest representation on EU-level is looked into and possible effects of the treaty are extracted. The conclusions of this work are directed at business interest representation organisations in the EU. Yet anybody who takes interest in European integration or in how business interests enter the EU decision making process shall find answers.

Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei in der Behandlung des Themas im Bezug auf die Erwachsenenbildung. Sonst findet das Spiel des Erwachsenen im Freizeitbereich, beim Zusammensein mit Kindern oder in Form von spielerischen Vorgehensweisen auch im Arbeitsbereich statt. Zunachst erfolgen zum einleitenden Verstandnis der Spieltheorie Darstellung, Vergleich und Zusammenfassung von vier Spieldefinitionen aus mehreren wissenschaftlichen Richtungen. Es wird herausgestellt, welche Gemeinsamkeiten und weiche Unterschiede es in den Definitionen von Spiel gibt. Auch die Nutzlichkeit des Spieles wird von verschiedenen Seiten her begrundet. Im Kapitel danach gehe ich ausschliesslich auf die padagogische Sichtweise von Spiel ein: Welchen padagogischen Nutzen hat Spiel? Was muss der Spielleiter beachten welche Spieleigenschaften muss man kennen, wenn man als Padagoge das Spiel einsetzt' Der darauffolgende Teil meiner Arbeit ergrundet den Sinn des Spiels anhand der Gedanken zur "asthetischen Erziehung" von Schiller. Hier wird vor allem deutlich, dass Spiel Nutzen und Spass verbindet, und warum Spiel zur ganzheitlichen Bildung des Menschen beitragt. Es erfolgt die Beschreibung der spezifischen Merkmale des Spiels im Erwachsenenalter und in der Erwachsenenbildung. Es geht um die Unterscheidung von Kinder- und Erwachsenenspiel im Laufe der Geschichte. Die Spielraume der Erwachsenenwelt werden untersucht. Dabei wird deutlich, wie ernst die Erwachsenen das Spiel nehmen. Ob es immer so sinnvoll ist, das Spiel gleichsam "professionell" zu betreiben, wird in Frage gestellt.
