Artists especially from dance and performance art as well as opera are involved to an increasing degree in the transfer between different media, not only in their productions but also the events, materials, and documents that surround them. At the same time, the focus on that which remains has become central to any discussion of performance. Performing Arts in Transition explores what takes place in the moments of transition from one medium to another, and from the live performance to that which "survives" it. Case studies from a broad range of interdisciplinary scholars address phenomena such as: The dynamics of transfer between the performing and visual arts. The philosophy and terminologies of transitioning between media. Narratives and counternarratives in historical re-creations. The status of chronology and the document in art scholarship. This is an essential contribution to a vibrant, multidisciplinary and international field of research emerging at the intersections of performance, visual arts, and media studies.

Glass and Glass Production in the Near East during the Iron Age: Evidence from objects, texts and chemical analysis examines the history of glass in Iron Age Mesopotamia and neighbouring regions (1000–539 BCE). This is the first monograph to cover this region and period comprehensively and in detail and thus fills a significant gap in glass research. It focusses on identification of the different types of glass objects and their respective manufacturing techniques from the the Iron Age period. Both glass as material and individual glass objects are investigated to answer questions such as as how raw glass (primary production) and glass objects (secondary production) were manufactured, how both these industries were organised, and how widespread glass objects were in Mesopotamian society in the Iron Age period. Such a comprehensive picture of glass and its production in the Iron Age can only be achieved by setting archaeological data in relation to cuneiform texts, archaeometric analyses and experimental-archaeological investigations. With regard to the different disciplines incorporated into this study, an attempt was made to view them together and to establish connections between these areas.

Im Rahmen der phanomenologischen Beschreibung des Filmerlebens gelingen sehr genaue Szenenbeschreibungen und uberzeugende Analysen der visuellen und akustischen Eindrucke des Films. Formal ist der Text sehr sorgfaltig erarbeitet. Dieser Auszug aus einer Filmbesprechung zu Black Swan von Andreas Borcholte trifft mit seiner taktilen Sprache, die wahrend des Lesens fast eine korperliche Dimension anzunehmen scheint, genau den Punkt der mich nach Black Swan an diesem Film nachhaltig faszinierte. Um Borcholtes Worte an dieser Stelle zu ubernehmen - psychische Beklemmung" oder auch korperliche Grenzerfahrung" findet und das konnte als eine Art Eigenheit des Films herausgearbeitet werden, sowohl auf der Leinwand auf visueller, aber auch narrativer Ebene statt und daruber hinaus auf der anderen Seite spurbar in den Korpern der Zuschauer_innen. Das Schulkind Chiara lebt mit ihren beiden Schwestern, Shirin und Zelia, bei den Eltern, den Zimmerschmidtchens. Durch einen traumhaften Zufall kommt Chiara in den Besitz eines Leuchtschlussels, der nicht nur auf alle Turen passt, sondern auch im Dunklen leuchten kann. Mit seiner Hilfe meistern die Kinder allerlei kleine Abenteuer. Othello, oftmals ein treuer Begleiter, ist der klugste Hund von ganz Deutschland und steht Chiara oft hilfreich zur Seite. Spannende Abenteuer erlebt sie weiterhin mit ihren Freundinnen, Madleen, Sophie, Karla und Alena.Wenn die Madchenclique loszieht, sind gute Laune, Spannung und Zusammenhalt angesagt. Mit den Moglichkeiten des einmaligen Leuchtschlussels kann Chiara viele Probleme losen, und so entkommen die Kinder heiklen Situationen. Zum Beispiel vertreiben sie mit einem Trick und dem Leuchtschlussel den bosen Waldgeist aus dem Traumland.

Sigmar Polke (born 1941) recently completed a series of 12 windows for the Grossmunster cathedral in Zurich, setting new standards for the mutual relationship between art and church. One group of seven Romanesque windows shows luminous mosaics of thinly sliced agate, some of it artificially colored, to produce pulsating blocks of back-lit color. Says Marina Warner, "The interior of rocks opens not only on unexpected colors... on once imprisoned now scintillating rays and gleams, but it also tunnels into the past, into the distant past of geological and cosmological millennia." For the remaining five windows, Polke designed images of figures from the Old Testament, based on medieval illuminations, which have themselves undergone transformation in the course of their long journey through time. Polke's figures now appear as radiantly contemporary icons created in colored glass, using a variety of traditional and customized techniques devised especially for this project.
