Amoret is the story of one woman's journey from small town to city,
from a Mormon childhood to a mother of four and her struggles to
understand the changing landscape of her life. Through poetry &
gardens, letters & journals, friends & children, polygamy
and divorce & her father's constant struggle with the land,
Amoret discovers the meaning of innocence and guilt, sorrow and
strength, happiness and hope. In a time and place where women were
voiceless and invisible, in her darkest hour of despair, she
finally found her voice. Amoret Eliza Draper was born in 1888 in
St. John, Utah, a dusty speck of a town surrounded by brown hills
and high mountains. She died in 1917 at age 28 at the cusp of one
of the most exciting times in the country's history. This is her
story and the story of the lives she touched along the way.
Tommy knew he loved Sarah, but was taught by the men in his family
to put notches in his belt. He thought women were only sex objects
until no matter what he did, worked. It was as if his life was just
an illusion. He started feeling that he was living a vain and empty
life, so he asked his mother, "What am I suppose to do with women?"
Tommy's mother handed him something to read that changed his view
about why God created women and put men in position as the head of
the family. Tommy found out a prepared man is a man of dreams and
visions. His position in life eventually esteemed from his dreams.
After TerriLynn was murdered, and he almost lost Sarah, he knew
that nothing would ever come between them again. The feminine part
of this world is to unfold the beauty of what is hidden. Tommy
eventually realized what his potential was and that was to love his
wife so that he could bring the best out of her.
Like trees, we go through seasons of our lives, each one preparing
and shaping us for the next. Journey back to the beginning of the
third day of Creation and see how we were created by God to grow,
expand, multiply and flourish. In clear, inspirational prose,
McClure uses personal anecdotes and Bible stories to explore why we
should listen to the word of God, why God belongs on the top of our
family tree, and how best to live our lives.
