Using a unique "old-new" treatment, this book presents new
perspectives on several important topics in Southeast Asian history
and historiography. Based on original, primary research, it
reinterprets and revises several long-held conventional views in
the field, covering the period from the "classical" age to the
twentieth century. Chapters share the approach to Southeast Asian
history and historiography: namely, giving "agency" to Southeast
Asia in all research, analysis, writing, and interpretation. The
book honours John K. Whitmore, a senior historian in the field of
Southeast Asian history today, by demonstrating the scope and
breadth of the scholar's influence on two generations of historians
trained in the West. In addition to providing new information and
insights on the field of Southeast Asia, this book stimulates new
debate on conventional ideas, evidence, and approaches to its
teaching, research, and understanding. It addresses, and in many
cases, revises specific, critically important topics in Southeast
Asian history on which much conventional knowledge of Southeast
Asia has long been based. It is of interest to scholars of
Southeast Asian Studies, as well as Asian History.

People with Asperger Syndrome have many characteristics that are
frequently seen in a negative light. Brenda Boyd shows that for
every characteristic of AS that can be looked at negatively, there
are several positive aspects that can be drawn on and developed.
Discussing AS in general terms, she talks through the reasons why
people with AS approach life in the way they do, and what an
enormous contribution they make to the world. She then explores
different characteristics of AS; while she acknowledges the
negative perception so many people have of these characteristics,
she points out the large number of advantages to the Aspergers way
of thinking for individuals with AS, those around them and society
as a whole. For every negative, Boyd proves there are many more
positives. From their refreshing honesty to their originality and
potential to become leaders rather than followers, people with AS
have many admirable personality traits that should be nurtured.
This book shows that by adjusting our perceptions of what is
'normal' and embracing diversity, AS can not only be understood and
accepted, but appreciated. Appreciating Asperger Syndrome is a
celebration of AS which should be read by individuals with AS,
family members, and anyone who knows or works professionally with
individuals with AS.

I wrote these poems for people to read and relate to their everyday
lives. Each poem is different and has a different meaning for every
person who reads them. The poems in this book refer to all aspects
of life. My goal in writing this book is to help people deal with
the pressures of life. I want my readers to be able to read a poem
about "Love" and think of their girlfriends or boyfriends. I want
my poems to be able to help someone grieve over a loved one who
passed away, and most of all I want my readers to enjoy my poems
because they are for you. I hope happiness comes to all of my
readers. Even if you do not like poetry, you will be swept off your
feet, into a fantasy world that will help you escape the pressures
of life. Open your mind and let your imagination free!!!! Enjoy
Life!! K.H.

Mea Cuba is the passionate but often hilarious political
autobiography of one of the greatest Cuban writers of the century.
Sharply opinionated and brutally honest, it explores the nature of
the Cuban revolution and the lives of those it has involved or
affected, from political leaders such as Fulgencio Batista, Che
Guevara, and Fidel Castro to writers like Alejo Carpentier,
Reinaldo Arenas, and Heberto Padilla. Mea Cuba overflows with
Cabrera Infante's brilliant wit and ingenious wordplay. But it is
also a deeply moving analysis of the tragedies - and political
farces - of our time. Profound, incisive, enlightening, and
entertaining, Mea Cuba is at once a revealing memoir and a
fascinating exploration of life, politics, and literature in Cuba
today.
While following the probes of foreign individuals into various
obscure parts of Southeast Asia over the centuries is a diverting
and entertaining pastime, the purpose of this volume is to
investigate this past with the mind, to question and postulate upon
the historical patterns that have developed from earlier study of
the area, and to bring concepts from other areas and disciplines to
bear on the existing information. The product of this effort, as it
is encompassed in this volume, is not an attempt at the definitive
study of any of the topics. It is rather a series of speculations
on the directions feasible for the further study of the Southeast
Asian past. As such, the answers proposed in these essays are
really questions. Are the ideas presented here true within the
specific historical contexts for which they have been developed? If
so, can we use these ideas, or variations of them, to interpret the
history of other parts of Southeast Asia? If not, what other ideas
may be brought to bear on these situations in order to understand
them? The ultimate aim of this volume is thus a challenge to the
profession at large not only to criticize what we have done, but
also to go beyond our postulations and create new ones. [xi]
Kenneth Hall was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome at the age of
eight. His early school years had been difficult, as although he is
bright and articulate, his behaviour could be challenging and
easily misread. After his diagnosis, the Local Education Board
intervened and provided him with a laptop computer, to encourage
him to express himself. This book is the result. Kenneth Hall was
diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome at the age of eight. He is in a
unique position to describe some of the inner experiences and
perceptions of autism in childhood. He has a warm and positive
attitude to Asperger Syndrome which other children will find
inspiring. Insights, struggles and joys are recounted vividly in a
frank and humorous way. His book is for anyone interested in
understanding more about autism, including parents, siblings,
teachers and professionals.
