The number of people suffering from different eating disorders has
grown dramatically within the last twenty years. These two volumes
examine feeding difficulties and eating disorders in children and
adolescents, from babies to 19-year-olds. The volumes consist of
clinical cases that describe the process of psychoanalytic
psychotherapy used to treat the patients. The contributors look at
the underlying causes for the disorders, such as bulimia and
anorexia, lead to a normal life with the help of psychoanalytic
psychotherapy. In addition, this collection takes into account the
profound effects eating disorders have, not only on the patients,
but on their immediate family and friends as well. 'Many cases
describe the anxieties and strategies of defence used against
feelings of dependence and the risk of accepting from another. This
is a core theme in both volumes and is the principle idea behind
the paradoxical title, The Generosity of Acceptance.

Imagine cooking with some of the greatest chefs in France. Facing
fascinating challenges, Patti Ravenscroft developed a French
culinary tour business, discovering 10 starred provincial chefs who
took her groups into their kitchens to do hands-on cooking, and
explore provincial France with them. Along the way, many remarkable
things happened with chefs and clients as they sought out the best
France had to offer. Visiting markets, farms, artisans and
wineries, they also hunted mushrooms, digging for truffles with a
pig, and pursuing the best artisans in the area. Though she became
discouraged at one point for business and world event reasons, the
French Embassy in Washington restored her confidence by awarding
her the L'Ordre de Merite Agricole. Part memoir, part travelogue,
and part culinary tour adventure, the book contains descriptions of
cooking, eating and wine tasting with outstanding chefs; included
are 27 of their best recipes adapted for the American cook.
Learning the theory of Disaster Psychiatry is one thing; applying
it in the midst of a disaster is another. The International Medical
Corps selected me to form a mental health crisis team serving five
IMC mobile medical clinics in Petit-Goave. 70 to 80% of houses were
damaged or destroyed killing large numbers; people constructed tent
cities everywhere. Survivors from the Capitol poured steadily into
the area. During the time of Papa Doc Duvalier in the 60's I worked
as an anthropologist in Haiti outside of Leogane, doing research on
voodoo spirit possession. When the devastating 7.1 magnitude
earthquake hit Haiti in January, 2010, my deep love for her people
moved me to volunteer. Leogane was the epicenter of the quake. A
child psychiatrist, I worked with traumatized Haitian families,
training Haitian doctors and nurses in disaster psychiatry, at the
same time rediscovering myself in the midst of this devastating
tragedy.
