It is generally expected, that a combination of silicon CMOS devices with molecular structure will dominate the ?eld of nanoelectronics in 20 years. The visionary ideas of atomic- or molecular-scale electronics already date back thirty years but only recently advanced nanotechnology, including e.g. scanning tunneling methods and mechanically controllable break junctions, have enabled to make distinct progress in this direction. On the level of f- damentalresearch, stateofthearttechniquesallowtomanipulate, imageand probechargetransportthroughuni-molecularsystemsinanincreasinglyc- trolled way. Hence, molecular electronics is reaching a stage of trustable and reproducible experiments. This has lead to a variety of physical and chemical phenomena recently observed for charge currents owing through molecular junctions, posing new challenges to theory. As a result a still increasing n- ber of open questions determines the future agenda in this ?eld."

This book describes manifestations of classical dynamics and chaos in the quantum properties of mesoscopic systems. During the last two decades mesoscopic physics has evolved into a rapidly progressing and exciting interdisciplinary field of physics. The first part of the book deals with integrable and chaotic classical dynamics with particular emphasis on the semiclassical description of spectral correlations, thermodynamic properties and linear response functions. The main part shows applications to prominent observables in the mesoscopic context.

The First World War led to a radical reshaping of Europe's political borders. Nowhere was this transformation more profound than in East Central Europe, where the collapse of imperial rule led to the emergence of a series of new states. New borders intersected centuries-old networks of commercial, cultural, and social exchange. The new states had to face the challenges posed by territorial fragmentation and at the same time establish durable state structures within an international order that viewed them as, at best, weak, and at worst, as merely provisional entities that would sooner or later be reintegrated into their larger neighbours' territory. Fragmentation in East Central Europe challenges the traditional view that the emergence of these states was the product of a radical rupture that naturally led from defunct empires to nation states. Using the example of Poland and the Baltic States, it retraces the roots of the interwar states of East Central Europe, of their policies, economic developments, and of their conflicts back to the First World War. At the same time, it shows that these states learned to harness the dynamics caused by territorial fragmentation, thus forever changing our understanding of what modern states can do.

Dieses Buch soIl fUr die praktische Ausbildung und das klinische Training der Akupunktur eine klar strukturierte und einfache theoretische Grundlage schaffen. Wir haben uns im wesentlichen an die Ausbildungsinhalte der Akademie fUr Traditionelle Chinesische Medizin Peking und der Acupuncture Foundation of Sri Lanka gehalten. Der Seniorautor, Prof. Dr. A. Jayasuriya, ist Chef der Akupunkturabteilung des Colombo South General Hospital in Sri Lanka, in dem in den vergangenen Jahren uber 30000 Patienten mit Akupunktur behandelt wurden, und Prasident des International College of Acupuncture in Colombo, wo bereits 3000 Arzte aus aller Welt in Akupunktur unterrichtet wurden. Die drei anderen Autoren habenjeweils in mehreren langeren Aufenthalten an diesem Krankenhaus gearbeitet und in Europa Akupunktur praktiziert, gelehrt und daruber publiziert. Ausgangspunkt des Buchs war ein Werk des Seniorautors in englischer Sprache. Da dieses Buch jedoch auf den Gebrauch in der dritten Welt hin geschrieben war und fUr europaische Verhaltnisse in vieler Hinsicht nicht ideal erschien, haben wir eine grundliche Neubearbeitung des Stoffs unternommen, so daB letzten Endes ein weitgehend neues Lehr buch entstand. In der Nomenklatur haben wir uns an die Angaben der Akademie fUr Traditionelle Chinesische Medizin Peking und an die offiziell beschlossene Pin-Yin-Transskription der chinesischen Zeichen in alphabetische Schrift gehalten."

Das Buch stellt die Grundlagen der Anwendung, Prufung und Bewertung diagnostischer Massnahmen in der Medizin zusammen. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der systematischen Darstellung der vier Phasen des Evaluierungsprozesses. Das Buch wendet sich an Mediziner, die sich mit der Erforschung und Evaluierung diagnostischer Massnahmen befassen. Der Begriff der Evaluierung bezieht sich dabei ausschliesslich auf die Verbesserung der Patientenversorgung und orientiert sich nicht primar an einer finanziellen Kosten-Nutzen-Abschatzung. Die Autoren schliessen mit diesem nutzlichen Buch eine Lucke im deutschen Sprachraum.

Studie und der Versuch einer filmliterarischen Umsetzung des im ersten Teil interpretierten Original-Helmbrecht und der dabei gewonnenen Erkenntnisse in die filmischen Formen von Exposee, Treatment und Autor-Drehbuch, die jeweils den Untertitel Der Reiter mit der Coiffe" haben. Sie sind in erster Linie als Lesestoff gedacht, konnen aber bei entsprechendem Interesse auch als Vorlagen fur einen etwa zweistundigen Film benutzt werden und verstehen sich als gegensatzliche Erganzung zum Original- Helmbrecht." Das Film-Exposee ist die thematisch gegliederte Erzahlung der neuen Geschichte unter Hervorhebung der Motive und Charaktere der handelnden Personen, aber noch ohne Dialog. Das Treatment ist die Einteilung der Handlung in einzelne Szenen nach raum-zeitlichen Gesichtspunkten (Mini- und Makroschauplatze), aber ebenfalls noch ohne Dialog (Szenarium). Das Drehbuch ubernimmt die im Treatment getroffene Einteilung in Szenen und vervollstandigt durch Hinzufugen des Dialogs die Handlung (Dialog-Szenarium). Das Neue an der vom jungen Helmbrecht handelnden Geschichte ist, dass er nicht, wie im Original, als Verbrecher dargestellt wird, der zum Schluss elend am Strick endet, sondern als junger, sympathischer Mann, der auf Grund seiner Fahigkeiten und Kenntnisse einen Weg in die adlige Gesellschaft sucht und sich dort unter Uberwindung von abenteuerlichen Schwierigkeiten bewahrt. Neu an der Handlung ist auch, dass in ihr die gesellschaftlich relevante Ritterschaft, die im Original- Helmbrecht" im Hintergrund bleibt, als aktiv in die Handlung eingefuhrt wird und eine bedeutende Erweiterung der Anzahl der Schauplatze bei gleichzeitiger Projektion in eine reale Landschaft stattfindet. Die Studie versteht sich als gegensatzliche Erganzung zum Original- Helmbrecht" und enthalt eine Interpretation der Novelle, eine Neufassung der Handlung (Rekreation) unter modernen Gesichtspunkten, die Erlauterung relevanter gesellschaftlicher Verhaltnisse des Hochmittelalters und eine Charakterisierung relevanter offentlicher Personen jener Zeit, die Beschreibung einiger neuer Erkenntnisse meinerseits bezuglich des Helmbrecht" und seines Verfassers sowie einige allgemeine Ausfuhrungen zum Begriff und zu Grundfragen der Literatur. Die filmliterarische Umsetzung der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse erfolgt im zweiten Teil dieser Studie in den Formen eines Film-Exposees, Treatments und Autor-Drehbuchs mit dem fur alle drei Texte gultigen Untertitel Der Reiter mit der Coiffe." Die Neufassung der Handlung besteht in einer historisch-gerechten Umgestaltung der Originalhandlung im Sinne unserer modernen Auffassung von der damaligen Zeit, wobei sie ihre heute unzeitgemasse Form als ausgesprochenes Lehrstuck verliert und zu einem bildenden Unterhaltungsstuck wird. Das geschieht zum einen dadurch, dass der Charakter des jungen Helmbrecht entkriminalisiert wird, d.h. er erhalt sympathische Wesenszuge mit denen man sich als Leser bzw. Zuschauer identifizieren kann, und zum anderen, dass die Ritterschaft als wesentliche Gesellschaftsschicht in die Handlung miteinbezogen wird, was bei Wernher fehlt, und die Anzahl der Schauplatze erweitert wird, wobei diese in eine reale Landschaft gestellt werden.
