Next-Generation Actuators Leading Breakthroughs (Paperback, 2010 ed.): Toshiro Higuchi, Koichi Suzumori, Satoshi Tadokoro Next-Generation Actuators Leading Breakthroughs (Paperback, 2010 ed.)
Toshiro Higuchi, Koichi Suzumori, Satoshi Tadokoro
R4,538 Discovery Miles 45 380 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Next-Generation Actuators Leading Breakthroughs is the proceedings of the final symposium of MEXT Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Priority Areas: Next-Generation Actuators Leading Breakthroughs, held in January 2010. Since the realization of next-generation actuators requires an interdisciplinary approach, the research has been organized according to a broad technological perspective that consists of: actuators for small motion of nano-meters, small-size actuators of micro-meters structures, intelligent actuators for functional motions, power actuators for large force/torque and actuators for special environments. Next-Generation Actuators Leading Breakthroughs also deals with common fundamental technologies for these actuators, such as intelligent materials, machining processes, control technologies, evaluation methods, and system integration. It provides cutting-edge research for researchers, postgraduates, and practitioners in mechanical, electrical, and materials industries.

The goal of this textbook is to equip readers with as structured knowledge of soft robotics as possible. Seeking to overcome the limitations of conventional robots by making them more flexible, gentle and adaptable, soft robotics has become one of the most active fields over the last decade. Soft robotics is also highly interdisciplinary, bringing together robotics, computer science, material science, biology, etc. After the introduction, the content is divided into three parts: Design of Soft Robots; Soft Materials; and Autonomous Soft Robots. Part I addresses soft mechanisms, biological mechanisms, and soft manipulation & locomotion. In Part II, the basics of polymer, biological materials, flexible & stretchable sensors, and soft actuators are discussed from a materials science standpoint. In turn, Part III focuses on modeling & control of continuum bodies, material intelligence, and information processing using soft body dynamics. In addition, the latest research results and cutting-edge research are highlighted throughout the book. Written by a team of researchers from highly diverse fields, the work offers a valuable textbook or technical guide for all students, engineers and researchers who are interested in soft robotics.

Intelligent Pneumatic Actuators (IPA) and its application (Paperback): Ahmad Athif Mohd Faudzi, Koichi Suzumori Intelligent Pneumatic Actuators (IPA) and its application (Paperback)
Ahmad Athif Mohd Faudzi, Koichi Suzumori
R1,552 Discovery Miles 15 520 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents the development of two types of intelligent pneumatic actuators (IPA) for physical human-machine interaction applications. The previously developed small type intelligent actuator was enhanced and proposed for Active Links Pillow (ALP) application while the development of a new high force intelligent pneumatic actuator was proposed for a chair tool namely Pneumatic Actuated Seating System (PASS). The developed new actuator consists of five extensive elements in a single device combining software and hardware architectural design. The actuator can performed spring and damping characteristics controlled from embedded system. Several control algorithms of position, force, compliance and viscosity were carried out for the actuator experimental evaluation. The application of PASS, a new chair type physical human and machine interaction seating system powered by thirty six developed intelligent pneumatic actuators is focused in this book.
