The 15th Franco-Japanese Symposium of Oceanography "Marine
Productivity, Perturbations and Resilience of Socio-Ecosystems,"
organized by the long-standing partners Societe franco-japonaise
d'Oceanographie de France and Societe franco-japonaise
d'Oceanographie du Japon, reviewed the impacts of natural (storms,
typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.) and man-made (pollution,
buildings in coastal areas, aquaculture, tourism, sports, diving,
etc.) perturbations inflicted on coastal and marine environments.
The Symposium examined the resilience of affected socio-ecosystems
along with governance responses for these global/local
environments. This book collects 43 selected papers, written by
experts from numerous universities and research institutes in both
countries. It addresses the needs of marine sciences researchers
(natural and social sciences), decision-makers and coastal zone
managers, and other stakeholders involved in coastal and marine
socio-ecosystems.
Systemic lupus erythematosus (S.L.E.), commonly called lupus, is a
chronic autoimmune disorder that can affect virtually any organ of
the body. In lupus, the body's immune system, which normally
functions to protect against foreign invaders, becomes hyperactive,
forming antibodies that attack normal tissues and organs, including
the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, heart, lungs, and blood. Lupus is
characterized by periods of illness, called flares, and periods of
wellness, or remission.
Because its symptoms come and go and mimic those of other diseases,
lupus is difficult to diagnose. There is no single laboratory test
that can definitively prove that a person has the complex illness.
To date, lupus has no known cause or cure. Early detection and
treatment is the key to a better health outcome and can usually
lessen the progression and severity of the disease.
Anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-malarials, and steroids (such as
cortisone and others) are often used to treat lupus. Cytotoxic
chemotherapies, similar to those used in the treatment of cancer,
are also used to suppress the immune system in lupus patients.
A new edition of this established and well regarded reference which
combines basic science with clinical science to provide a
translational medicine model. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a
useful reference for specialists in the diagnosis and management of
patients with SLE, a tool for measurement of clinical activity for
pharmaceutical development and basic research of the disease and a
reference work for hospital libraries.
* Highly illustrated and in full color throughout
* Basic science section expanded to allow the reader to focus on
the newest techniques in molecular medicine and its effects on
disease expression and treatment
* Clinical aspects and new drugs will be covered in great detail
providing a useful reference to both experienced clinicians and
physicians with an interest in lupus in their clinical
practice
Today, the effect of global climate change is clear to all. It is
clearly dangerous in developing countries such as Bangladesh. The
industrial revolution caused major changes in technology,
socio-economy and cultures in the late 18th and early 19th century,
beginning in Britain and spreading throughout the world. The
technology dominated economy was mostly dependent on energy
produced from fossil fuel, which still holds true today. It is well
known that fossil fuel burning has increased the GHGs to the
atmosphere, thus creating global warming. Among the GHGs, the
concentration of CO2 has been confirmed as the largest. Terrestrial
ecosystems are clearly influencing the concentration of GHGs in the
atmosphere. Greenhouse gases are constantly entering and leaving
the atmosphere. Actively growing trees and other plants absorb CO2
from the atmosphere, combine it with water through photosynthesis
and create sugars and more stable carbohydrates. Through this
process, trees capture and store atmospheric CO2 in vegetation,
soils and biomass products. The Kyoto Protocol, in 1997, explored a
flexible mechanism, CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) where Annex I
and non-Annex I parties interact for climate change mitigation.
Forestry activities have been considered important in the arena of
climate change as they act both as a sink and sources of carbon.
The purpose of this book is to highlight the means of efficiently
reducing global warming through forestry options in Bangladesh and
the positive implications of CDM.
Separated from his son while battling Yagu assassins, Itto Ogami's
mission of retribution heats to a boil as he cuts through any
obstacle to find his missing child. But little Daigoro, though a
mere toddler, is the son of the most formidable and resourcefull
samurai in the land. Though alone in a cruel world, Daigoro has the
heart of a warrior
The Routledge Handbook of Spanish Pragmatics is the first volume to
offer a comprehensive overview of advances in Spanish Pragmatics,
addressing different types of interaction and the variables, both
social and linguistic, that can affect them. Written by a diverse
set of experts in the field, the handbook unifies two major
approaches to the study of pragmatics, the Anglo-American and
European Continental traditions. Thirty-three chapters cover in
detail both pragmatic foundations (e.g. speech act theory,
implicature and relevance, deixis) and interfaces with other
concepts, including: * Discourse * Variation; Culture and
interculture * (Im)politeness; humor * Learning contexts and
teaching * Technology This is an ideal reference for advanced
undergraduate and postgraduate students, and researchers of Spanish
language and linguistics.
A phenomenon which appears in nature, or human behavior, can
sometimes be explained by saying that a certain potential function
is maximized, or minimized. For example, the Hamiltonian mechanics,
soapy films, size of an atom, business management, etc. In
mathematics, a point where a given function attains an extreme
value is called a critical point, or a singular point. The purpose
of singularity theory is to explore the properties of singular
points of functions and mappings. This is a volume on the
proceedings of the fourth Japanese-Australian Workshop on Real and
Complex Singularities held in Kobe, Japan. It consists of 11
original articles on singularities. Readers will be introduced to
some important new notions for characterizations of singularities
and several interesting results are delivered. In addition, current
approaches to classical topics and state-of-the-art effective
computational methods of invariants of singularities are also
presented. This volume will be useful not only to the singularity
theory specialists but also to general mathematicians.
Our dependence on healthy vegetable crops as a reliable source of
food transcends all barriers of nation and culture. Consumers now
demand excellent quality from the industry that produces large
volumes of high quality vegetables to be sold locally, regionally
and shipped internationally. The diseases that affect vegetables
compromise such quality and therefore are of great importance to
grower, shipper, marketer, and consumer. This book focuses
primarily on diseases that are caused by pathogens. Chapters
dealing with the general principles of the causes, diagnosis and
control of vegetable crop diseases are followed by crop-based
chapters. Each disease entry includes a brief introduction to the
disease, detailed description of disease symptoms, information on
the pathogen and disease development, and suggestions on how to
manage the problem. Top quality color photos illustrate the book
throughout. This book is useful to a range of professionals
including research and extension plant pathologists; diagnosticians
and plant lab personnel; teachers of agriculture and related
subjects; university students in agriculture and related fields;
commercial farmers, vegetable producers, and farm managers;
agriculturalists in the fields of seed production, vegetable
breeding, agrichemicals, pest control, marketing, and other
subjects; government and regulatory persons dealing with
agriculture; serious gardeners and hobbyists.

Created by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima, "Lone Wolf and Cub" has
sold over a million copies of its first Dark Horse English-language
editions, and this acclaimed masterpiece of graphic fiction is now
available in larger format, value-priced editions.
This practical guide is perfect for those looking to try this
ancient art form for the first time! In this book, Japanese master
artist Shozo Koike reveals the simple secrets of Sumi-e, offering
step-by-step instructions with clear photographs and online video
tutorials showing you how to paint 19 traditional subjects. Sumi-e
is the meditative Japanese form of ink painting taught by Zen
Buddhist monks to encourage mindfulness and an awareness of our
surroundings. It uses only ink, water, a brush and paper to capture
natural objects and landscapes in a vivid, spontaneous fashion.
Koike begins with the basics--what to buy and how to prepare the
ink in a traditional inkstone. Next, he shows you how to practice
the 11 basic brushstrokes used for all Sumi-e paintings. The 19
traditional subjects taught in this book include: Flowers like
orchids, chrysanthemums, camellias, roses and peonies Plants and
fruits including bamboo, eggplants, grapes and chestnuts Animal
figures including small birds, butterflies, chicks, crabs and
goldfish Koike also explains the philosophy of Sumi-e, which
emerges from the use of negative white space to enhance the painted
forms. Readers will enter into a world not just of black and white,
but of infinite shades of gray which are capable of evoking all the
sensations of color using these techniques.
THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER 'Practical and life-changing ways to
get out of our heads and back into really living' YOU Magazine What
if we could learn to look instead of see, listen instead of hear,
feel instead of touch? Former monk Ryunosuke Koike shows how, by
incorporating simple Zen practices into our daily lives, we can
reconnect with our five senses and live in a more peaceful,
positive way. When we focus on our senses and learn to re-train our
brains and our bodies, we start to eliminate the distracting noise
of our minds and the negative thoughts that create anxiety. By
following Ryunosuke Koike's practical steps on how to breathe,
listen, speak, laugh, love and even sleep in a new way, we can
improve our interactions with others, feel less stressed at work
and make every day calmer. Only by thinking less, can we appreciate
more.

edition) Frequently used audiology terminology and significant
clinical criteria are printed in bold. The Current Procedural
Terminology (CPT) code, if available, is listed under each test
procedure. In Part IV, the diagnostic code, commonly known as
International Classification of Diseases 9th Revision Clinical
Modification (ICD-9-CM), is also provided under each case as a
reference.
One of the most popular writers working in Japan today, Mariko
Koike is a recognised master of detective fiction and horror
writing. Known in particular for her hybrid works that blend these
styles with elements of romance, The Graveyard Apartment is
arguably Koike's masterpiece. Originally published in Japan in
1986, Koike's novel is the suspenseful tale of a young family that
believes it has found the perfect home to grow into, only to
realise that the apartments idyllic setting harbours the specter of
evil and that the longer they stay, the more trapped they become.
This tale of a young married couple who harbour a dark secret is
packed with dread and terror, as they and their daughter move into
a brand new apartment building built next to a graveyard. As
strange and terrifying occurrences begin to pile up, people in the
building start to move out one by one, until the young family is
left alone with someone...or something...lurking in the basement.
The psychological horror builds moment after moment, scene after
scene, culminating with a conclusion that will make you think twice
before ever going into a basement again.
Enabled by the development and introduction of new materials, the
semiconductor industry continues to follow Moore's law into 32nm
and 22nm technologies. Advanced interconnect structures require the
use of porous dielectrics with further reduced k-values and even
weaker mechanical properties, as well as much thinner metallization
liners. In addition, the increasing resistivity of Cu at decreasing
dimensions must be addressed in order to maintain the performance
of continuously shrinking devices. To deal with these issues, and
to maintain the reliability of the interconnects, innovations in
materials, processes and architectures are needed. This book brings
together researchers from around the world to exchange the latest
advances in materials, processes, integration and reliability in
advanced interconnects and packaging, and to discuss interconnects
for emerging technologies. Papers from a joint session with
Symposium F, Packaging, Chip-Package Interactions and Solder
Materials Challenges, are also included and focus on 3D chip
stacking and molecular electronics.
Epoxy resins are regarded as thermosetting resins and have found
various c- mercial applications after crosslinking with adequate
curing agents [1-3]. H- ever, some epoxy resins have been used as
thermoplastic resins without curing agents. Figure 1 shows the
applications of epoxy resins that are classi?ed to three
categories: thermosets in combination with curing agents,
thermoplastics wi- out curing agents, and raw materials for
modi?cation. The use in thermoplastics is not popular compared with
the two other applications. Typical thermoplastic applications are
found in stabilizers for vinyl resins, toners for copying - chines,
?re retardants for engineering plastics, and sizing material for
glass or carbon ?bers. The epoxy resin most frequently used is the
oligomer of the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) whose
chemical structure is shown below [1-3]. The DGEBA is composed of
linear molecules with different molecular weights according to the
variation of the repeated number (n) in the structural formula.
