R1,043 Discovery Miles 10 430 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

I know God still speaks to His children today. He has spoken in the past, He still speaks today, and will continue speaking in the future to anyone. Throughout my Christian life, God has spoken to me. He speaks through His Word, His Holy Spirit's gifts of utterance, preachers/teachers, dreams, my spouse and friends, through songs and music, subtle impulses, and through dramatic experiences. Once He has my attention, He will do everything necessary to impress upon my spirit the things He wants to teach me. Next to learning how to recognize His voice, the recurring theme has been that He is teaching me the importance of obedience He wants me to stop and ..". wait upon the Lord." Next, He wants me to listen to what He is saying to say to me, because, ..". my sheep know my voice..." He wants me to follow Him since ..".He already] knows the way that I take..." And finally, He asks me to be faithful and obedient because ..". For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is."

Submit your life to Jesus Christ, and allow Him to be your Lord. He will speak His will for your life in clear, undeniable ways.

Materials Synthesis and Characterization (Hardcover, 1997 ed.): Dale L. Perry Materials Synthesis and Characterization (Hardcover, 1997 ed.)
Dale L. Perry
R2,770 Discovery Miles 27 700 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

One area of science that has shown an explosive growth over the last few decades is materials science. Inherently by nature products of both basic and applied research, materials make possible life and society as we know it today. Materials, ranging from ceramics to semiconductors to composites, are such that new ones must not only be designed and made ... they must also be characterized in terms of their physical, chemical, and mechanical properties. Thus, many new state of-the-art techniques involving spectroscopy, microscopy, and other approaches are now routinely used. Modem materials have wide applications in many sectors of technology. Films, for example, constitute an enormous area of materials and are used extensively. Films in tum can be integrated with other systems such as superconducting metal oxides and organic superconductors. Additionally, ceramics can also be synthesized and fabricated as films for different applications. Catalysts, too, can vary widely in both composition and form. The number of applications for catalysts in industry must easily rank as one of the highest number of applications for any class of materials. Catalysis is impOltant for a wide range of activities in industry, from petroleum refining to the synthesis of a large number of industrial feedstock materials. Researchers in this area of materials are constantly trying to unravel new approaches to making better catalysts."

Human Resources for the Non-HR Manager (Hardcover, 2nd edition): Carol T Kulik, Elissa L. Perry Human Resources for the Non-HR Manager (Hardcover, 2nd edition)
Carol T Kulik, Elissa L. Perry
R3,646 Discovery Miles 36 460 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Human Resources for the Non-HR Manager gives every manager, regardless of their functional role, access to cutting-edge research and evidence-based recommendations so they can approach their people management responsibilities with confidence. Day-to-day people management is increasingly the responsibility of front-line managers, not HR professionals. But managers are often poorly prepared for these responsibilities; they receive little training (and sometimes have little interest!) in HR. People management is never easy, and it is particularly challenging in COVID-19’s "next normal" workplace, where managers must engage diverse employees across a wide range of working arrangements. This book focuses on the special relationship that line managers have with their employees and describes managers’ responsibilities across the entire employee lifecycle – from front-end recruiting and hiring through to long-term retention. The content is grounded in rigorous academic research, but the book’s conversational tone conveys basic principles without technical jargon. Each chapter includes Manager’s Checkpoints to help readers apply the material to their own workplace, and Manager’s Knots that address gray areas inherent in people management. The book is designed for any reader currently working as a line manager, or aspiring to a managerial role, who wants to improve their people management skills.

Growing God's Family - The Global Orphan Care Movement and the Limits of Evangelical Activism (Paperback): Samuel L Perry Growing God's Family - The Global Orphan Care Movement and the Limits of Evangelical Activism (Paperback)
Samuel L Perry
R779 Discovery Miles 7 790 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Illustrates the hidden challenges embedded within the evangelical adoption movement. For over a decade, prominent leaders and organizations among American Evangelicals have spent a substantial amount of time and money in an effort to address what they believe to be the "Orphan Crisis" of the United States. Yet, despite an expansive commitment of resources, there is no reliable evidence that these efforts have been successful. Adoptions are declining across the board, and both foster parenting and foster-adoptions remain steady. Why have evangelical mobilization efforts been so ineffective? To answer this question, Samuel L. Perry draws on interviews with over 220 movement leaders and grassroots families, as well as national data on adoption and fostering, to show that the problem goes beyond orphan care. Perry argues that evangelical social engagement is fundamentally self-limiting and difficult to sustain because their subcultural commitments lock them into an approach that does not work on a practical level. Growing God's Family ultimately reveals this peculiar irony within American evangelicalism by exposing how certain aspects of the evangelical subculture may stimulate activism to address social problems, even while these same subcultural characteristics undermine their own strategic effectiveness. It provides the most recent analysis of dominant elements within the evangelical subculture and how that subculture shapes the engagement strategies of evangelicals as a group.

What Makes Learning Fun? - Principles for the Design of Intrinsically Motivating Museum Exhibits (Hardcover): Deborah L Perry What Makes Learning Fun? - Principles for the Design of Intrinsically Motivating Museum Exhibits (Hardcover)
Deborah L Perry
R2,518 Discovery Miles 25 180 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Although much has been written in recent years on what museum visitors actually experience, there is little research-backed guidance available for developing meaningful exhibits and programs for specific educational purposes. Deborah Perry looks at what we know about the experiences of people in museums and other informal learning settings, and then shares a set of tested principles and strategies known as the Selinda Model for the design of effective museum exhibits. Along the way, she showcases examples of both effective and ineffective exhibit designs drawn from two decades of work in the field.

Creating Health Behavior Change - How to Develop Community-Wide Programs for Youth (Hardcover): Cheryl L. Perry Creating Health Behavior Change - How to Develop Community-Wide Programs for Youth (Hardcover)
Cheryl L. Perry
R5,520 Discovery Miles 55 200 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

I have no doubt that this book will be extremely useful to folk involved in programmes that aim to improve health outcomes of children and adolescents. It's brevity, among other factors, ensures that most people who buy, borrow or steal the book will actually fulfil an intention of reading it cover-to-cover! --Alan J. Fisher, University of Cape Town Journal of Child and Adolescent Mental Health The purpose of this book is to provide a process for the development of effective community-wide health behavior programs for children and adolescents. Significant behavior change among young people across a variety of behaviors and community-based research studies has been achieved through programs that have been created based on this 10-step process. These steps will be discussed in four primary stages: preparing for program development; determining the program components; creating the health behavior program; and implementing and maintaining a program. The intent, then, of this book is to provide steps for developing programs that will lead to meaningful change in improving the health behaviors of young people in our communities, in the broader context of improving physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being.

Sexual and Gender Minority Health (Hardcover): Brea L. Perry, Allen J. Leblanc Sexual and Gender Minority Health (Hardcover)
Brea L. Perry, Allen J. Leblanc
R3,208 Discovery Miles 32 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Research concerning sexual and gender minority (SGM) health has flourished in recent years in conjunction with a period of intense social, political, and legal discourse about SGM persons. While this attention has increased understanding and recognition of SGM experiences, recent advances have often been met with resistance and backlash rooted in social stigma and long histories of discrimination. This volume of Advances in Medical Sociology showcases rich theoretical and empirical contributions on SGM health and wellbeing. The chapters address a variety of topics, drawing from classic and contemporary sociological frameworks and constructs, and reflecting intersecting interdisciplinary approaches to SGM health. Research presented in this volume provides an in-depth focus on sexual and/or gender minority populations, as well as the diverse sub-populations within them; theoretical and empirical explanations for SGM health disparities and resilience; aging and life course perspectives on the health experiences of SGM persons; health in the context of critical relationships in the lives of SGM persons; and the experiences of seeking general and specialized health care among SGM. The time is ripe for deeper examinations of the social determinants of SGM health, and this volume seeks to begin filling existing gaps in the literature.

Public Service and Good Governance for the Twenty-First Century (Hardcover): James L. Perry Public Service and Good Governance for the Twenty-First Century (Hardcover)
James L. Perry; Contributions by Paul A Volcker
R1,738 Discovery Miles 17 380 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Expert analysis of American governance challenges and recommendations for reform Two big ideas serve as the catalyst for the essays collected in this book. The first is the state of governance in the United States, which Americans variously perceive as broken, frustrating, and unresponsive. Editor James Perry observes in his Introduction that this perception is rooted in three simultaneous developments: government's failure to perform basic tasks that once were taken for granted, an accelerating pace of change that quickly makes past standards of performance antiquated, and a dearth of intellectual capital that generate the capacity to bridge the gulf between expectations and performance. The second idea hearkens back to the Progressive era, when Americans revealed themselves to be committed to better administration of their government at all levels—federal, state, and local. These two ideas—the diminishing capacity for effective governance and Americans' expectations for reform—are veering in opposite directions. Contributors to Public Service and Good Governance for the Twenty-First Century explore these central ideas by addressing such questions as: what is the state of government today? Can future disruptions of governance and public service be anticipated? What forms of government will emerge from the past and what institutions and structures will be needed to meet future challenges? And lastly, and perhaps most importantly, what knowledge, skills, and abilities will need to be fostered for tomorrow's civil servants to lead and execute effectively? Public Service and Good Governance for the Twenty-First Century offers recommendations for bending the trajectories of governance capacity and reform expectations toward convergence, including reversing the trend of administrative disinvestment, developing talent for public leadership through higher education, creating a federal civil service to meet future needs, and rebuilding bipartisanship so that the sweeping changes needed to restore good government become possible. Contributors: Sheila Bair, William W. Bradley, John J. DiIulio, Jr., Angela Evans, Francis Fukuyama, Donald F. Kettl, Ramayya Krishnan, Paul C. Light, Shelley Metzenbaum, Norman J. Ornstein, James L. Perry, Norma M. Riccucci, Paul R. Verkuil, Paul A. Volcker.

Food Systems and Health (Hardcover): Sara Shostak Food Systems and Health (Hardcover)

R3,442 Discovery Miles 34 420 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In recent years, the ways in which food is produced, distributed, and consumed have emerged as prominent health and social issues. With rising concern about rates of obesity, food systems have attracted the attention of state actors, leading to both innovative and controversial public health interventions, such as citywide soda bans, "veggie prescription" initiatives, and farm-to-school programs. At the same time, social movement activism has emerged focused on issues related to food and health, including movements for food justice, food safety, farm worker's rights, and community control of land for agricultural production. Meanwhile, many individuals and families struggle to obtain food that is affordable, accessible, and meaningfully connected to their cultures. Volume 18 of Advances in Medical Sociology brings cutting-edge sociological research to bear on these multiple dimensions of food systems and their impacts on individual and population health. This volume will highlight how food systems matter for health policy, health politics, and the lived experiences and life chances of individuals and communities.

Brea L. Perry
R4,067 Discovery Miles 40 670 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Throughout the 1960's and 1970's, a revolution in mental health policy and practice known as deinstitutionalization occurred in Europe and the US. This movement was catalyzed by criticisms of psychiatric institutions and resulted in the release of thousands of people with serious mental illness from long-term care facilities into the community. It is acknowledged that these reforms held great promise, but have had numerous unintended negative consequences. Moreover, deinstitutionalization has strained the resources and reach of community-based mental health treatment systems, spilling into other institutions such as criminal justice and education. Volume 17 of Advances in Medical Sociology will examine deinstitutionalization's legacies approximately 50 years after reintegration began, turning a critical lens toward contemporary problems and solutions related to mental illness in countries where reform occurred. This volume will highlight pressing issues around mental health treatment, social and health policy, and the lived experiences of people and families coping with mental illness that were or continue to be significantly influenced by deinstitutionalization reforms.

Andrew L. Whitehead, Samuel L Perry
R825 R561 Discovery Miles 5 610 Save R264 (32%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

How did so many white, conservative Christians come to embrace Donald Trump? Why do many argue so vigorously for preserving Confederate monuments and against the teaching of "Critical Race Theory"? Why do many Americans seem so unwilling to acknowledge the injustices that ethnic and racial minorities experience in the United States? Why do a sizeable proportion of Americans continue to oppose women's equality in the workplace and in the home? To answer these questions, Taking America Back for God points to the phenomenon of "Christian nationalism," the belief that the United States is-and should be-a Christian nation. Christian ideals and symbols have long played an important role in American public life, but Christian nationalism is about far more than whether the phrase "under God" belongs in the pledge of allegiance. At its heart, Christian nationalism demands that we must preserve a particular kind of social order, an order in which everyone-Christians and non-Christians, natural-born and immigrants, whites and minorities, men and women recognizes their "proper" place in society. In this award-winning book, the first comprehensive empirical analysis of Christian nationalism in the United States, Taking America Back for God illustrates the influence of Christian nationalism on today's most contentious social and political issues. Drawing on multiple sources of national survey data as well as in-depth interviews, Andrew Whitehead and Samuel Perry document how Christian nationalism shapes what Americans think about who they are as a people, what their future should look like, and how they should get there. Americans' stance toward Christian nationalism provides powerful insight into what they think about immigration, Islam, gun control, police shootings, atheists, gender roles, and many other political issues-very much including who they want in the White House. Taking America Back for God is a guide to one of the most important-and least understood-forces shaping American politics.
