Spanish and Portuguese Across Time highlights the range possible for scholars trained in a department of linguistics and literature, and shows that these disciplines need not be mutually exclusive. It covers a diverse range of topics, which nevertheless retain a common focus, on the dynamic nature of languages and the social forces that shape them across time, place, and borders. Themes in Part I - Linguistics and Literature: Translation, Society, and Language Variation - include the literary representation of speech, social, and regional variation, and some history on linguistic devices used in the service of social criticism. The work here demonstrates how linguistic principles can offer productive angles to the study of literature, and that literary sources can serve as data for linguistic analysis. The papers in Part II - Language Change, Language Contact, and Language Users - continue the focus on the interface between language and social factors, with both historical and present-day data on speech and speakers' behavior.
This handbook presents an expansive exploration of critical theory, critical perspectives, critical praxis, and the impact on the research, theory, and practice of Human Resource Development (HRD). Critical Human Resource Development (CHRD) aims to challenge the normative structures, practices, policies, definitions, and approaches which have historically dominated the field of Human Resource Development (HRD). As an approach to HRD, CHRD raises awareness of social systems, organizational policies and practices, and research paradigms that silence new ways of knowing and understanding, while advancing underrepresented and emerging approaches. Through an analysis of power and privilege, morality and ethics, and ideology and context, CHRD situates diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and resistance as a path forward in a rapidly-changing global society. In contrast to HRD's traditional focus on organization development, training and development, and career development, this handbook adopts a more critical vantage point which classifies the scope and outcomes of HRD across five domains identified by CHRD scholars as key to understanding the nature and work of the field- organizing, relating, learning, changing, and advocating.

New folks discover steampunk every day, and often their first question is, "What is steampunk?," and their second question is, "What do steampunks do?." Steampunk For Simpletons starts with those questions and expands outward to cover a plethora of topics. We give a primer followed by a guided tour through the world of steampunk, from the basics such as where to go and what to do, to the aesthetic of the arts within steampunk. Travis I. Sivart and Wendy L. Callahan are both published steampunk authors, as well as having a weekly radio show on the subject. Though they do not claim to be the ultimate or complete authority in this beloved genre, they wrote this book hoping to help new folks find their way into the hobby, or help others expand their knowledge of the aesthetic. The Bible clearly tells us that the end of time is near. The devil is constantly assaulting God's people with devastating forms of spiritual warfare. This war is being waged world wide. The battlefield is in the heart of every believer and the souls of mankind are the prize. We, as Christians, must not fear and give up. God is on our side and we will win. We are instructed to put on the whole armor of God. But what are our weapons? How do we learn to use them? How do we fight an unseen enemy? What does God expect of us? Can we really be victorious? The purpose of this book is to show how God's Word answers these questions. It is my desire that you fully comprehend what God has given to me, so - "I've tried to write it, so that you can understand it." In 1970, while a senior at the University of Georgia, Danny Callahan, received his calling into the ministry. God's words were crystal clear that day, as He shared His will for Danny's life. Then the Lord ended His instructions with these words, "I want you to say it so that they can understand." After graduation Danny entered the job market and pursued his own dreams. But "the calling" haunted him day and night. After struggling for two years, he surrendered his will to God, and his life has never been the same. He started his first youth group in 1973 and served as a youth minister for the next twenty years. In August of 1993 he accepted the pastorate of Kettle Creek Church, in Waycross, Georgia. He has faithfully ministered there for the past fifteen years and continues to humbly serve as their Shepherd. |
