A SPIRITUAL FEAST Even as the moth is drawn to self-immolation in
the brightness of the candle's flame, so is the spirit of the
mystic drawn to self-immolation as it soars to the Sun of its own
being. The earth ceases to exist and the heavens grow ever
brighter. Words are tattered beyond repair and the spirit becomes
one with the living Flame of Love. Such is the ecstasy and the
passion as the mystic reaches ever deeper into the mysterious
Source of all. Once triumphant in the journey, the realized souls
moved by compassion, return to assist others in the upward path.
Individually commissioned as the need arises, they come into the
prison of this world as ambassadors of Truth. All of us are
mystics, but man is an unrealized mystic due to preoccupation with
the gifts of this world and his blind ignorance of the Divine
Giver. We have become saturated with the world, but the true goal
of life is to become saturated with the Divine and return to that
home we left so long ago. Royal has been a student at a number of
schools of esoteric and mystical teachings in Canada, America,
Europe, and the Far East. He states, "Reading these writings of
mine are like dipping your toe at the water's edge along the shore
of the Ocean of Love for one brief moment; may you be brave enough
to dive to the depths." Royal L. Craig
Sometimes called the "literature of ideas," science fiction is a
natural medium for normative political philosophy. Science
fiction's focus on technology, space and time travel, non-human
lifeforms, and parallel universes cannot help but invoke the
perennial questions of political life, including the nature of a
just social order and who should rule; freedom, free will, and
autonomy; and the advantages and disadvantages of progress. Rather
than offering a reading of a work inspired by a particular thinker
or tradition, each chapter presents a careful reading of a classic
or contemporary work in the genre (a novel, short story, film, or
television series) to illustrate and explore the themes and
concepts of political philosophy.

The influence of Christianity on literature has been great
throughout history, as has been the influence of the great
Christian, Augustine. Augustine and Literature considers the
influence of Augustine on the theory and practice of an academic
discipline of which he himself was not a practitioner-literature,
especially poetry and fiction. The essays in this volume explore
the many influences of Augustine on literature, most obviously in
terms of themes and symbols, but also more pervasively perhaps in
proving that literature strives for meaning through and beyond the
fictional or metaphorical surface. The authors discussed in these
essays, from Dante and Milton to O'Connor and Faulkner, all
demonstrate a common concern that literature must be attentive to
the highest things and the deepest journeys of the soul. Together
these essays offer a compelling argument that literature and
Augustine do belong together in the common task of guiding the soul
toward the truth it desires.

What role do their respective police systems play in the very
different crime rates of Japan and the United States? This study
draws on direct observation of Japanese police practices combined
with interviews of police officials, criminal justice
practitioners, legal scholars, and private citizens. It compares
many Japanese police practices side by side with U.S. police
practices, and places the role of the police in the broader
cultural and historical Japanese framework.
