Social Media and Oil in Southern California: Greenwashing Los
Angeles interrogates the politics of invisibility that permeates
Southern California’s oil industry. Most residents are completely
unaware that hospitals, schools, businesses, and homes are built
among the thousands of active wells in Los Angeles County. Since
the early 1900’s, the oil industry used social media to greenwash
itself and obscure the material consequences of drilling and
refining. From postcards to YouTube, social media has been a key
tool in the arsenal of the fossil fuel industry. Jason L. Jarvis
argues that oil–not Hollywood–is the key industry that drives
the California dream. Scholars of communication, environmental
studies, and rhetoric will find this book of particular interest.
The life of Malcolm 'Shorty' Jarvis, Malcolm X's best friend before
his conversion to Islam, is the subject of this memoir. Through
this book, Jarvis (who died in September 1998) and Paul D. Nichols
tell Jarvis' story - to set the record straight about his
personality and character, which they felt had been falsely
portrayed in other books and films about Malcolm X. The
relationship between Jarvis and Malcolm X began in a Roxbury pool
hall in 1942. A main purpose of this book is to bring to light
information about the life, spirituality, and philosophy of Malcolm
'Shorty' Jarvis, an accomplished jazz musician. It includes
numerous photographs.

Shadows In The Forest is written in two parts. The first part is
dedicated to the woodland Indians who called the Mississippi Valley
their home for centuries. Using primary source documentation,
author Tim L. Jarvis gives a history of this once great and
powerful Algonquian speaking Illinois Confederacy. The second part
is dedicated towards conducting a historically accurate portrayal
of a non-nation specific woodland Indian. As a living history
interpreter, the author wants to share the knowledge that he has
gained through research, along with his personal experiences from
years of living history reenacting and experimental archaeology, to
help you as the reader become a better living history reenactor.
The goal is to provide the reader with quality information on how
to conduct a more accurate Woodland Indian portrayal.

Genealogical research not only reveals our family history, but
inevitably draws us into the historical events which shaped the
lives of our ancestors, and the destiny of our country. My Patriot
Ancestor, Vincent Hudson, served in the Revolutionary War with
Washington's Army at Valley Forge and at Yorktown. He again served
in the War of 1812 with his two sons. Vincent Hudson's grandson,
James Vincent Hudson/Hall, was coxswain on-board the
ship-of-the-line U.S.S. Ohio, and played an important role during
the decisive battle of Vera Cruz, in the War with Mexico. After the
War with Mexico, James Vincent Hudson/Hall became an outfitter in
Coloma during the California gold rush of 1849. Vincent Hudson's
great-great-grandfather, Edward Hudson lived on the Jamestown
plantation during the census of 1623/24. He patented 100-acres of
land on the James River in the County of Henricus in 1626. He
accompanied Colonel William Claiborne to Kent Island in the
Chesapeake Bay as part of the first settlement in Maryland in 1631.
Tax Law and the Environment: A Multidisciplinary and Worldwide
Perspective takes a multidisciplinary approach to explore the ways
how tax policy can is used solve environmental problems throughout
the world, using a multi-jurisdictional and multidisciplinary
approach. Environmental taxation involves using taxes to impose a
cost on environmentally harmful activities or tax subsidies to
provide preferred tax treatment to more sustainable alternatives to
those harmful activities. This book provides a detailed analysis of
environmental taxation, with examples from around the world. As the
extraction, processing and use of energy use resources is has been
a major cause of environmental harm, this book explores the
taxation and subsidization of both fossil fuels and renewable
energy. Its analysis of the past, present, and future potential of
environmental taxation will help policymakers move economies toward
sustainability, as well as and informing students, academics, and
citizens about tax solutions for pressing environmental issues.
This book provides scholarly and applied perspectives on culturally
sensitive narrative interventions for culturally diverse and
immigrant children and adolescents. A resilience model and
strengths-based approach form the basis for responding to stressors
of migration and the acculturation process through the use of
narrative, storytelling, drawings, and puppetry techniques. The
authors emphasize and illustrate the need to incorporate
evidence-based approaches and cultural understanding when
developing and implementing narrative educational and therapeutic
interventions.
