Animated road trip adventure. Kate (voiced by Hayden Panettiere)
and Humphrey (Justin Long) are two young wolves from a National
Park in Canada who find themselves shipped halfway across the
country by the park's rangers. While Humphrey is a streetwise,
fun-loving Omega wolf, Kate is a sleek and sophisticated Alpha wolf
and considers herself Humphrey's superior. Thrown together in a
foreign land, and faced with a journey of over a thousand miles to
get back home and restore peace on their warring home turf, the two
must overcome their differences and learn to look out for each
other.

"We need to do Community Involvement better - we know we're
spending millions each year on charitable causes; how can we find
out what is really effective and what people will appreciate us
for? Who should we partner with? How can we make a real difference
in society and help our business?" Companies around the world are
trying to answer these questions. Many are asking the same
questions even as, collectively, they continue to spend billions on
their communities. How do they know which activities are really
worthwhile? Building on the authors' own extensive global
experience at Nokia and E.ON, as well as the experience of many
other experts in the field, this book offers the first-ever "how
to" roadmap for managers on the comprehensive implementation of
strategic Community Involvement inside their companies. It is
designed to be practical, for those who want to act upon what they
have read. It will fill a long-neglected niche as a day-to-day
reference guide for practitioners. Corporate Community Involvement
demonstrates what to do and how to do it. The advice is backed up
by inspiring interviews with best-in-class practitioners from
businesses such as Microsoft, GlaxoSmithKline, Ericsson, and
Deutsche Bank and leading international Corporate Responsibility
and Community Involvement experts. The book highlights proven
best-practice approaches, effective methods, and concise tools to
help managers "get there faster" and "get it right first time." The
core of the book is a step-by-step guide to developing and
implementing a comprehensive and successful approach to Corporate
Community Involvement. It shows how to: conduct a current state
analysis and devise a strategy, organize staffing and budgets,
integrate Corporate Community Involvement throughout the business
and create high-profile programs, partner across sectors, measure
and evaluate results, communicate successful activities, and
overcome challenges. Corporate Community Involvement has an
international perspective: the models and principles advocated are
adaptable anywhere in the world. Also, it is designed to have as
much relevance to a small or medium-sized enterprise as to a
multinational. The book outlines the history and future of
Corporate Community Involvement, explaining the business context
and why companies need to manage their programs strategically. It
also distinguishes between the growing lexicon of terminologies and
provides clear definitions of terms such as "philanthropy",
"sponsorship", "Corporate Citizenship", "Corporate Responsibility"
and "Sustainability", advising when they are appropriate and how
each can add value to corporate activities. This will be an
indispensible resource for those working at the interface between
business and the community. New or developing practitioners will
learn from both the successes and failures of those before them.
Representatives from other sectors, notably government,
international agencies, NGOs, and academia, will come to understand
companies' internal requirements for cross-sector collaboration
programs in the community better. And students interested in this
field will be better equipped to start careers.
This book provides an environmental 'way in' to the science every
primary science teacher needs to know under the ITT National
Curriculum issued by the Teacher Training Agency. It builds
constructively on the knowledge of and involvement in environmental
issues possessed by practicing and student teachers, whether
specialist or non-specialist scientists. Especially for the latter,
science can be a daunting and difficult area of their teaching. The
authors believe that, by way of an environmental emphasis, the
science underpinning such practice can be acquired by most
students, enabling them to build their confidence as effective
science teachers, while developing environmental awareness and
understanding in primary children.
The fourth edition of Teaching Secondary Science has been fully
updated and includes a wide range of new material. This invaluable
resource offers a new collection of sample lesson plans and
includes two new chapters covering effective e-learning and advice
on supporting learners with English as a second language. It
continues as a comprehensive guide for all aspects of science
teaching, with a focus on understanding pupils' alternative
frameworks of belief, the importance of developing or challenging
them and the need to enable pupils to take ownership of scientific
ideas. This new edition supports all aspects of teaching science in
a stimulating environment, enabling pupils to understand their
place in the world and look after it. Key features include:
Illustrative and engaging lesson plans for use in the classroom
Help for pupils to construct new scientific meanings M-level
support materials Advice on teaching 'difficult ideas' in biology,
chemistry, physics and earth sciences Education for sustainable
development and understanding climate change Managing the science
classroom and health and safety in the laboratory Support for talk
for learning, and advice on numeracy in science New chapters on
e-learning and supporting learners with English as a second
language. Presenting an environmentally sustainable, global
approach to science teaching, this book emphasises the need to
build on or challenge children's existing ideas so they better
understand the world in which they live. Essential reading for all
students and practising science teachers, this invaluable book will
support those undertaking secondary science PGCE, school-based
routes into teaching and those studying at Masters level.

Research into and interest in the role of stromal cells in
immunology has exploded over the past 15 years. The conventional
view that placed non-hematopoietic stromal cells as passive,
structural, and supportive entities has now been replaced with an
appreciation that these cells have active, dynamic roles during
immune responses, and thus impact on the pathophysiology of
multiple immune-mediated diseases. This book serves to provide
solid grounding in the fundamentals of stromal immunology, focusing
on the biological aspects of their function in addition to
highlighting key areas for the development of the field in the
future. The book is also a unique source of information on emerging
concepts that place stromal cells from outside lymphoid organs as
major contributors to the biology of diverse conditions, such as
rheumatoid arthritis, chronic parasitic infection, inflammatory
bowel disease, and cancer.

When it was learned that Professor Scholze was revising his classic
work on the nature, structure, and properties of glass, it was
natural to conceive the idea of translating the new edition into
English. Professor Scholze enthusiastically endorsed this
suggestion and asked for the concurrence of his publisher,
Springer-Verlag. Springer-Verlag welcomed the idea and readily
agreed to provide support. With the essential agreements in place,
Professor Michael Lakin, Professor of German at Alfred University,
was asked to do the transla tion, and I subsequently agreed to work
with Professor Lakin to check for technical accuracy. I was happy
to accept this task because of my respect for Professor Scholze and
because of the value to glass scientists and engineers of having
available an English edition of Glas. Professor Scholze died before
publication ofthis English edition of his work. However, he had
reviewed the entire English text and had approved it. Professor
Lakin and I appreciated the confidence he placed in us, and we were
gratified with his acceptance of our efforts. His scientific
contributions were numerous and important; they will long serve as
guideposts for research in many key areas. We hope this translation
of Glas will help make his legacy accessible to more people.
Professor Lakin and I have tried to provide a translation that is
accurate and true to the original but that has a distinctive
English "flavor"; that is, it is not just a literal translation."
