This edition of Lilith: The Legend of the First Woman contains
illustrated depictions of the mythic Lilith, in her role within the
garden of Eden. Collier uses poetry to detail an account of Lilith
as an alternative narrative of the Book of Genesis. Originating
from Rabbinic circles, the notion of Lilith was as Adam's first
wife, with her expulsion taking place before God created Eve as her
replacement. Drawing upon aspects of Jewish, Christian and Islamic
law, Collier ably details Lilith's characteristics - she appears
not as a malevolent demon or temptress, but as an intelligent being
with a great capacity for affection. Owing to the interpretation
being in verse form, we may observe an aesthetic description of the
Garden of Eden and the circumstances of Lilith's arrival there. A
fascinating interpretation of ancient myths, Lilith: The Legend of
the First Woman is a worthwhile and intriguing read for those
interested in Old Testament lore and Lilith as legend.

This book provides a systematic and scholarly examination of the
major questions facing academics and practitioners working in the
area of deviance and aging. Drawing on the theoretical and
empirical work from established leaders in criminology and criminal
justice, the editors provide large sample studies that identify the
long-term trends in the area of aging and crime. This volume is a
fine source of data about a minor facet of offensive behavior.
"Contemporary Sociology"
The book provides a systematic and scholarly examination of the
major questions facing academics and practitioners working in the
area of deviance and aging. Drawing on the theoretical and
empirical work from established leaders in criminology and criminal
justice, the editors provide large sample studies that identify the
long-term trends in the area of aging and crime. The introduction
addresses the question of the real trends among older offenders and
offers a detailed review of the criminological and criminal justice
literature on older offenders. The section on criminological
perspectives examines the question Why does criminal behavior
decline with age? from both sociological and psychological
perspectives. Other chapters discuss the application of social
learning, control, and anomie theories of deviance to crime by
older offenders; provide an econometric analysis of property crime;
and consider research on alcohol abuse and homicide among elderly.
The section dealing with criminal justice perspectives examines the
dispositions of police, judiciary, and correctional management
toward the elderly. This final section also includes coverage of
special sub-populations of elderly offenders, such as violent
offenders, and long-term offenders.
This study examines, in a comparative fashion, the limitations or
constraints imposed upon police organizational structure by agency
size, technology employed, and agency environment. The book is
based on data collected from 175 police organizations. It is not a
study of the "best way" to organize the police, but looks at the
way different organizations work so the reader can decide for
himself.

Animal law is a growing discipline, as is animal ethics. In this
wide-ranging book, scholars from around the world address the
intersections between the two. Specifically, this collection
focuses on pressing moral issues and how law can protect animals
from cruelty and abuse. A project of the Oxford Centre for Animal
Ethics, the book is edited by the Oxford Centre's directors, Andrew
Linzey and Clair Linzey, and features contributions from many of
its fellows. Divided into three sections, the work explores
historical perspectives and ethical-legal issues such as
"personhood" and "property" before focusing on five practical case
studies. The volume introduces readers to the interweaving between
these subjects and should act as a spur to further
interdisciplinary work.
In his three Henry VI plays, Shakespeare tackles the
infamous Wars of the Roses and the fall of the House of Lancaster.
In this translation of Henry VI, Part 1, Douglas Langworthy
explores the initial unrest as a young Henry VI becomes
king. Langworthy’s translation takes a deep dive into the
language of Shakespeare. With a fine-tooth comb, he updates
passages that are archaic and difficult to the modern ear and
matches them with the syntax and lyricism of the rest of the
play, essentially translating archaic Shakespeare to
match contemporary Shakespeare. Â This translation
of Henry VI, Part 1 was written as part of the Oregon
Shakespeare Festival’s Play On! project, which commissioned new
translations of thirty-nine Shakespeare plays. These translations
present the work of "The Bard" in language accessible to modern
audiences while never losing the beauty of Shakespeare’s verse.
Enlisting the talents of a diverse group of contemporary
playwrights, screenwriters, and dramaturges from diverse
backgrounds, this project reenvisions Shakespeare for
the twenty-first century. These volumes make these works available
for the first time in print—a new First Folio for a new era.
