Designing Cultures of Care brings together an international selection of design researchers who, through a variety of design approaches, explore the ways in which design intersects with cultures of care. Based around a unifying critique of the proposition of care as a theoretical framework for undertaking design research in real world contexts, each chapter presents a case study of design research in action. Digital technologies have transformed archives in every area of their form and function, and as technologies mature so does their capacity to change our understanding and experience of material and performative cultural production. There has been an exponential explosion in the production and consumption of video online and yet there is a scarcity of knowledge and cases about video and the digital archive. This book seeks to address that through the lens of the project Circus Oz Living Archive. Practice-Based Design Research provides a companion to masters and PhD programs in design research through practice. The contributors address a range of models and approaches to practice-based research, consider relationships between industry and academia, researchers and designers, discuss initiatives to support students and faculty during the research process, and explore how students' experiences of undertaking practice-based research has impacted their future design and research practice. The text is illustrated throughout with case study examples by authors who have set up, taught or undertaken practice-based design research, in a range of national and institutional contexts.

How do we engage with the space of creative practice? This project is a topographic exploration of the anfractuous experience of creative practice as conceived through labyrinthine space. Theoretically, and in practice, this is an exploration of the experience of located creative practice, articulated as the studio. As the narrative of this research evolves within this text, I discuss the evolution of my understanding of the 'space of the studio' and the idea of the labyrinth and the labyrinthine as a means for understanding and experiencing this. Building on the discourses of creativity, reflective practice, embodiment, and space and place, I conclude that when attempting to make meaning of located creative practice, it is not labyrinthine space that we seek to understand but rather labyrinthine place.
