Life. Death. What it means to be human. Be amazed and inspired by
answers to some of the biggest questions you could ever ask...Do we
live forever? What?s it like on the "other side"? Can we
communicate with the deceased? Do "Gods" really exist? Who are the
Ascended Masters? Have guides changed the course of history? Could
a guardian angel save your life? Richard Lawrence explains, with
captivating frankness and authority, what communicating with the
departed is really like ? and how the message of those beyond this
plane of existence is relevant to every single one of us. Unlike
many psychics, Richard wasn?t born with a "gift" ? he began to
develop his abilities through practising the techniques of his own
spiritual teacher, Dr George King, over 25 years ago. Described by
Spirit & Destiny as "a world-renowned teacher of psychic
development and meditation...with a balanced and responsible
spiritual approach, combined with enthusiasm and a sense of
humour", he is well known as a popular broadcaster, writer, speaker
and workshop presenter. His remarkable accounts of a kaleidoscopic
array of personal psychic experiences, from channelling poetry to
performing exorcisms, are sure to fascinate any seeker who wants to
know more about the little-understood adventures which await us all
in our journey through spiritual evolution.

Because radiation is a central curative and palliative therapy for
many patients, it is essential to have safe and efficient systems
for planning and delivering radiation therapy. Factors such as
rapid technological advances, financial reorganization, an aging
population, and evolving societal expectations, however, may be
compromising our ability to deliver highly reliable and efficient
care. Engineering Patient Safety in Radiation Oncology describes
proven concepts and examples, borrowed from organizations known for
high reliability and value creation, to guide radiation oncology
centers towards achieving patient safety and quality goals. It
portrays the authors' efforts at the University of North Carolina
to address the challenges of keeping patients safe while
continuously improving care delivery processes. Reviews past and
current challenges of patient safety issues within radiation
oncology Provides an overview of best practices from high
reliability organizations Explains how to optimize workplaces and
work processes to minimize human error Offers methods for engaging
and respecting people during their transition to safety mindfulness
Requiring no prior knowledge of high reliability and value
creation, the book is divided into two parts. Part one introduces
the basic concepts, methods, and tools that underlie the authors'
approach to high reliability and value creation. In addition, it
provides an overview of key safety challenges within radiation
oncology. In part two, the authors supply an in-depth account of
their journey to high reliability and value creation at the
University of North Carolina.
Comprehensive guide to the animals of North America Fully
illustrated with drawings and photographs User-friendly format
makes comparing species easy
This uniquely thorough reference and guidebook offers
illustrations, descriptions, and measurements for the skulls of
some 275 animal species found throughout North America. The
skull--the collection of bones that house and protect a creature's
brain and sensory organs--is the key anatomical feature used to
identify an animal and understand many of its behaviors. This book
describes in words and pictures the bones and regions of the skull
important to identification, including illustrations of all the
bones in the cranium, leading to a greater understanding of a
creature's place in the natural world. Life-size drawings and
detailed measurements make this guide an invaluable reference for
wildlife professionals, trackers, and animal-lovers alike.
Anyone can learn karate, but to master oneself takes a lifetime.
This is the inspiring story of an ex-Marine who sought out the one
form of martial arts that would polish his mind and strengthen his
spirit- Kobayashi Shorin Ryu Karate. Finding the right dojo would
lead him to Okinawa and a Sensei (teacher), a seventh degree black
belt, who would show him what lay beyond the pain, beyond the
exhaustion. He was taught Nintai: the art of patience,
perseverance, and endurance.
"The reason there are mirrors in the dojo is to allow the student
to always face his greatest opponent: himself. It is the aim of the
true karate practitioner to overcome the ego, and focus on the
higher goal of unifying the mind, body, and spirit. In Okinawa, it
is the Sensei's responsibility to help the student become humble
enough to attain this objective."
Only when Nintai is accomplished, can one pursue a higher spiritual
path.
Spotting an animal's fresh footprints in the wild can conjure a
world for the hiker: Why did the deer tracks disappear? Where did
the cougar turn off the trail? What does it mean when two sets of
footprints seem to coincide? This beautifully illustrated field
guide, the first devoted to the tracks and signs of California
animals - including birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and
invertebrates like spiders and beetles - blends meticulous science
with field experience to provide an engaging companion for both
armchair exploration and easy field identification. Filled with
useful tools for the wildlife expert, and essential background and
visual aids for the novice, including in-depth information about
the ecology of each species, this book goes beyond basic
recognition of types to interpret what animals leave behind as a
way of "seeing" how they move through the world.
In innumerable ways, we still live in LBJ's America. More than half
a century after his death, Lyndon Baines Johnson continues to exert
profound influence on American life. This collection skillfully
explores his seminal accomplishments—protecting civil rights,
fighting poverty, expanding access to medical care, lowering
barriers to immigration—as well as his struggles in Vietnam and
his difficulty responding to other challenges in an era of
declining US influence on the global stage. Sweeping and
influential, LBJ's America probes the ways in which the
accomplishments, setbacks, controversies and crises of 1963 to 1969
laid the foundations of contemporary America and set the stage for
our own era of policy debates, political contention, distrust of
government, and hyper-partisanship.
This booklet is a Christmas gift to our children and their
children. It is a passing along of the faith that we share, short
reflections on each prayer, and the prayers that have influenced
Christians throughout the ages. The prayers, of course, are not
original work at all. The prayers are themselves reflections upon
struggles with God during difficult times, the product of profound
thought, and even the Gospel by such wonderful teachers as Saint
Francis of Assisi, Reinhold Niebuhr, and Jesus of Nazareth.
Transitioning to Calculus is a comprehensive compilation of the
mathematical concepts and formulas that are required of students
entering their first class in calculus. The essentials of
arithmetic, algebra, geometry, analytic geometry, trigonometry, and
complex variables are organized into separate chapters. The purpose
of this book is to provide a succinct but comprehensive list of the
topics required of students entering calculus.Over 100 figures
highlight the intuitive and geometric aspects of the formulas and
concepts. Each chapter ends with a series of exercises (with space
provided for working out a solution) that are designed to reinforce
the application of the concepts and formulas. Complete solutions to
the problems are included.
To open a newspaper or turn on the television it would appear that
science and religion are polar opposites - mutually exclusive
bedfellows competing for hearts and minds. There is little
indication of the rich interaction between religion and science
throughout history, much of which continues today. From ancient to
modern times, mathematicians have played a key role in this
interaction. This is a book on the relationship between mathematics
and religious beliefs. It aims to show that, throughout scientific
history, mathematics has been used to make sense of the 'big'
questions of life, and that religious beliefs sometimes drove
mathematicians to mathematics to help them make sense of the world.
Containing contributions from a wide array of scholars in the
fields of philosophy, history of science and history of
mathematics, this book shows that the intersection between
mathematics and theism is rich in both culture and character.
Chapters cover a fascinating range of topics including the Sect of
the Pythagoreans, Newton's views on the apocalypse, Charles
Dodgson's Anglican faith and Goedel's proof of the existence of
God.
An elementary introduction to the probabilistic models and
statistical methods used by reliability engineers as applied to,
for example, electrical or mechanical systems. Leemis offers
explanations of how the mathematical models and results apply to
engineering design and the analysis of lifetime data sets, with
simple, supplementary proofs and derivations provided when
necessary. Applications are drawn from a variety of disciplines.

D. H. Lawrence expected The Rainbow to have 'a bit of a fight'
before it was accepted, but 'The fight will have to be made, that
is all'. It was suppressed, just over a month after publication, in
November 1915. The American publisher would make thirteen further
cuts and 'dribble out' the book quietly. In 1930 the British
government would again consider suppressing a new printing of The
Rainbow. Professor Mark Kinkead-Weekes gives the composition
history and collates the surviving states of the text to assess the
damage done to Lawrence's novel, and to provide a text as close to
that which the author wrote as is now possible. The final
manuscript, revisions in the typescript and the first edition are
recorded in full in the textual apparatus so the reader can follow
the novel's development and evaluate what outside interference may
have done to it. Also included are explanatory notes to historical
references and allusions, and an interior chronology of the book
itself.
By the authors of The Self-Coached Runner, this book is also about
road racing. It provides training schedules for five and ten
kilometre and marathon races, and devotes chapters to nutrition,
sports psychology and the effects of the ageing process.

New Agendas in Remote Sensing and Landscape Archaeology in the Near
East is a collection of papers produced in honour of Tony James
Wilkinson, who was Professor of Archaeology at Durham University
from 2006 until his death in 2014. Though commemorative in concept,
the volume is an assemblage of new research representing emerging
agendas and innovative methods in remote sensing. The intention is
to explore the opportunities and challenges faced by researchers in
the field today, and the tools, techniques, and theoretical
approaches available to resolve them within the framework of
landscape archaeology. The papers build on the traditional
strengths of landscape archaeology, such as geoarchaeology and
settlement pattern analysis, as well as integrating data sources to
address major research questions, such as the ancient economy,
urbanism, water management and the treatment of the dead. The
authors demonstrate the importance of an interdisciplinary approach
for understanding the impact of human activity on shaping the
landscape and the effect that landscape has on sociocultural
development.
