In First Facts and Flaps: Super Space preschoolers discover the wonders of stars, planets, the Moon and space travel. With colourful scenes by Lon Lee and rhymes to introduce each topic plus over thirty flaps, a turn-and-learn wheel and giant fold-out ending, this fun novelty book encourages young children to learn as they play.
All facts are age-appropriate, picture-led and checked by Jacqueline Mitton, an experienced astronomer and former editor of the Journal of the British Astronomical Society.

Root disease epidemics, because much of the activity takes place in
soil and out of sight, pose special challenges to growers who seek
to manage them and to scientists who study them. All relevant
topics of root disease epidemics and their management are
presented: The critical aspects of specific disease components
including inoculum, host roots, mycorrhiza and the soil environment
are explored. Challenges of disease assessment and the temporal and
spatial aspects of epidemic development are considered, and
approaches to root disease management including host resistance,
chemical, biological and cultural management are discussed in
detail. The book fulfills the needs of researchers, teachers, and
practitioners of plant pathology.
Leap into Action asks: "What happens when performative arts meet
pedagogy?" and views performative teaching as building students'
understanding of complex ideas and concepts "through action." It
provides the theoretical, philosophical, and conceptual terrain by
setting forth the scholarly rationale as to what performative
pedagogy is at this moment across Art & Design education.
Contributions are made from individuals and groups across art and
design disciplines who deploy innovative pedagogic approaches with
an emphasis on performativity. To underline that Art & Design
does not only happen within the institution, Leap into Action
provides rich intertextual material that draws upon the experiences
of practitioners. Leap into Action is intended to prompt new angles
from which to examine one's practice including and beyond pedagogy,
mainly in terms of art, design and performance, and disciplines
further afield. Whilst Leap into Action engages with performative
pedagogies through disruptions, interruptions, tricksters,
liminalities, affective bodies, sensory encounters, and
technoparticipation, it calls into question what risk-taking means
in an arts school context and the tension (even paradox) that
exists between wanting to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive
environment and provoking students out of their comfort zones
through experimental performative pedagogy and playfulness. Whilst
engagement with performative strategies may be a 'risky' strategy,
the rewards can be great. Enter the unknown, take a leap into
action, and have fun.
Every year we see a remarkable increase in scientific knowledge. We
are learning more each day about the world around us, about the
numerous biological organisms of the biosphere, about the physical
and chemical processes that shaped and continue to change our
planet. The cataloging, retrieval, dissemination, and use of this
new information along with the continued development of new
computer technology provide some of the most challenging problems
in science as we enter the Information Age. With the explosion of
knowledge in science, it is especially important that students in
introductory courses learn not only the basic material of a
subject, but also about the newest developments in that subject.
With this goal in mind, we have prepared a second edition of
Introduction to Plant Diseases: Identification and Management. We
prepared this edition with the same general purpose that we had for
the first edition - to provide practical, up-to-date information
that helps in the successful management of diseases on food, fiber,
and landscape plants for students who do not have a strong
background in the biological sciences. We included new information
on (1) the precise identification of diseases and the pathogens
that cause them, (2) the development of epidemics of plant
diseases, (3) the application of biotechnology in plant pathology,
(4) the use of alternative methods of crop production and disease
management that help protect the environment, and (5) diseases that
have become more important since the first edition was published.
