The Lake District National Park is England's most popular mountain region and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Suitable for most reasonably fit hillwalkers, the 145km (90 mile) Tour of the Lake District takes in the best of this beautiful region in a circular tour. The route is presented in nine stages, plus an optional 'prologue' stage from Windermere station to the start-point in Ambleside, and can be compressed into one week or extended over two weeks, giving time to visit many attractions on the way. In addition to the main (non-waymarked) route, which links the main towns and valleys of the national park, five interchangeable high-level stages are also offered, enabling you to visit some of the region's most celebrated high peaks - including Coniston Old Man, Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Helvellyn - should you so wish. There are notes on local points of interest and a wealth of information to help you plan your tour, covering public transport, accommodation and kit, plus accommodation listings and a facilities table. The Tour showcases the magnificent landscapes of the region, from mountain vistas to idyllic lakeshore scenery. There are lakes, rivers and waterfalls, characterful towns and villages, remote valleys, high fells and fascinating historical features including a Neolithic stone circle, packhorse bridges and properties that once belonged to Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. There are a wide range of accommodation options to suit all budgets and opportunities to sample delicious local produce. The Tour of the Lake District is an ideal way to discover all the region has to offer and is sure to generate lots of memorable experiences.
Guidebook to walking the Cotswold Way National Trail between Chipping Campden and Bath, across the Cotswolds AONB - which includes both a guide to the route and a separate mapping booklet. The 102 mile (163km) route is described in both directions over 14 stages, of between 4 and 10 miles, depending on the existence of overnight accommodation. A more detailed map of the Way is supplied in booklet form, at a scale of 1:25,000, slid into the back of the book. The Cotswold Way became a National Trail in May 2007, despite having been a much-loved walking route for more than 35 years. It follows the Cotswold escarpment, with dramatic and far-reaching views across the Severn Vale towards the Welsh hills, plunging down to visit honey-coloured villages, old market towns and the elegant and historic city of Bath.

A guidebook to 50 day walks in Switzerland's Jungfrau region from the main bases of Grindelwald, Wengen, the Lauterbrunnen valley and Mürren. These graded walks range from grade 1 almost level short walks through to grade 4 challenging Alpine routes, however, most are grades 2 or 3 and are suitable for walkers with some experience. Ranging in length from 5 to 23.5km the routes visit valleys, waterfalls and alpine huts. Many also take advantage of the widespread public transport and lifts around the Bernese Oberland to provide options for walks at a higher altitude. Along with a detailed route description, each walk has 1:50,000 mapping and information on public transport access to the start and end points. Details of accommodation, alpine huts and facilities are also provided.
Most of the professional training, thinking and strategies of architects, urban designers and planners, are strictly three-dimensional. In reality of course the city is four dimensional, and one needs to acknowledge the influence of time in planning and design strategies. Similarly, there has been relatively little analysis of the importance of interim, short-term or meanwhile activities in urban areas. In an era of increasing pressure on scarce resources, we cannot wait for long-term solutions to vacancy or dereliction. Instead, we need to view temporary uses as increasingly legitimate and important in their own right. They can be a powerful tool through which we can drip-feed initiatives for incremental change as and when we have the resources while being guided by a loose-fit vision. Peter Bishop and Lesley Williams explore the growing interest among practitioners at the cutting edge of architecture, urban design and regeneration, in temporary, interim, pop-up or meanwhile uses for land and buildings in our urban areas. They explore the origins and the social, economic and technological drivers behind this phenomenon, and its place within modern planning theory and practice. The Temporary City challenges our preoccupation with long-term strategies and masterplans and questions our ability to achieve these in the face of increasing resource constraints and political and economic uncertainty. The book includes sixty-eight diverse case studies from Europe and North America which illustrate the range of temporary use opportunities and the benefits that these can bring. This is essential reading for all those struggling to address the current problems of urban renewal in an era of great change. It offers a prism through which to view the city as a rich mosaic of time-limited, but inspiring urban interventions."
Guidebook describing 50 varied walks in the Valais region in the heart of the Swiss Alps. The graded day walks based around the popular resort towns of Zermatt and Saas-Fee explore the Mattertal and Saastal valleys and the surrounding mountains. Ranging from 4 to 18km, the easily accessible routes make use of the area's extensive network of well-made mountain paths and its lift system. There are walks here to suit all tastes, from low-level lake walks or easy strolls up to mountain restaurants, through to serious mountain outings on steep and rocky trails. Distance, walking time and difficulty are shown for each route, and the detailed route description is accompanied by clear mapping. Dominated by 4000m the giants, the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa, this is a land of contrasts, with snow-capped mountains and glaciers above and meadows and vineyards fringing the valleys below. Good transport infrastructure and plentiful accommodation make it a superb area for a walking holiday.

The King's Cross scheme is one of the largest and most complex developments taking place in Britain today. Through documenting this seminal case-study, this book sheds light on the complex process through which public realm development proposals are planned and approved: through complex negotiation and deal making, involving many different stakeholders. Unique, insider's account: draws on first-hand interviews and full access to previously confidential material from primary sources. Comprehensive look at urban planning relevant to both students and practitioners. Currently very little available on the process through which public realm schemes are planned and approved. Kings Cross is now a standing event in the teaching calendars of many planning schools. Huge international market: KX visitor centre receives delegations on study tours from Japan, Taiwan, China, USA, India, Korea, Australia, Malaysia, UAE, Russia, South Africa, Mexico and most the EU.
