Incarcerated in a Norwegian high-security prison, a broken
Alexander Blix joins forces with Emma Ramm to find a ruthless
killer who has escaped from a German jail. Pulse-pounding Nordic
Noir. Alexander Blix is a broken man. Convicted for avenging his
daughter’s death, he is now being held in one of Norway’s
high-security prisons. Inside, the other prisoners take every
opportunity to challenge and humiliate the former police
investigator. On the outside, Blix’s former colleagues have begun
the hunt for a terrifying killer. Walter Kroos has escaped from
prison in Germany and is making his way north. The only lead
established by the police is that Kroos has a friend in Blix’s
prison ward. And now they need Blix’s help. Journalist Emma Ramm
is one of Blix’s few visitors, and she becomes his ally as he
struggles to connect the link between past and present, between the
world inside and outside the prison walls. And as he begins to
piece things together, he identifies a woodland community in Norway
where deeply scarred inhabitants foster deadly secrets... secrets
that maybe the unravelling of everyone involved. Â

A killer caught. A murder sentence served. But did they arrest the wrong man?
In 1999, seventeen-year-old Tone Vaterland was killed on her way home from work. The police - desperate for a quick conviction - deemed the investigation an open-and-shut case and sent her embittered ex-boyfriend, Danny Momrak, down for murder. Her family was able to grieve. The public felt justice had been done. The streets were safe again.
But twenty years later, Detective William Wisting receives an anonymous letter suggesting that the wrong man was convicted, and worse yet: the real murderer is still out there. Thrown into a terrifying race against time, Wisting must find the sender and catch the real killer before they strike again.
But nothing is as it seems. And as Wisting disappears further into a dark past of secrets, lies and murder, his own life is threatened... Can he find Tone's true killer before it's too late?
When the mother of a missing two-year-old girl is seriously injured
in a suspected terrorist attack in Oslo, crime-fighting duo Blix
and Ramm join forces to investigate the case, and things aren’t
adding up … The second instalment in an addictive, atmospheric,

Oslo, New Year’s Eve. The annual firework celebration is
rocked by an explosion, and the city is put on terrorist
alert. Police officer Alexander Blix and blogger Emma Ramm
are on the scene, and when a severely injured survivor is pulled
from the icy harbour, she is identified as the mother of
two-year-old Patricia Smeplass, who was kidnapped on her way home
from kindergarten ten years earlier … and never found. Blix and
Ramm join forces to investigate the unsolved case, as public
interest heightens, the terror threat is raised, and it becomes
clear that Patricia’s disappearance is not all that it seems…
_____________________ Praise for the Blix & Ramm series:
‘Everything about this crime novel sings, the relationship
between Blix and Emma, which is complex, but also the relationship
between Blix and Fosse and Kovic. The past bleeds into the present
and the clever melding of the strands of the story and the slow
reveal of details that propel the story is masterly. This tale
often surprises or shifts in subtle ways that are pleasing and
avoid cliché. As the opener for a new series this is a cracker,
long live the marriage of Horst and Enger’ New Books
Magazine ‘A fast-moving, punchy, serial killer investigative
novel with a whammy of an ending. If this is the first in the Blix
and Ramm series, then here’s to many more!’ LoveReading
‘A clever, gripping crime novel with personality, flair, and
heart’ Crime by the Book ‘A stunningly excellent
collaboration from Thomas Enger and Jorn Lier Horst …. It’s a
brutal tale of fame, murder, and reality TV that gets
the pulse racing’ Russel McLean ‘Now — what happens

This book will bring a state of the art overview of the research
done in sustainable logistics. It will be structured along the four
A's of sustainable logistics:- 1 Awareness: it is important that
companies and policy makers are aware of the effects of their
activities and policies. New methods to estimate the effects of the
logistic activities and the change towards more sustainable ways
will be covered. 2 Avoidance: transport can be avoided by a better
collaboration between actors (vertically and horizontally. Papers
covering this topic will be introduced here. 3 Acting and shifting
the goods to more environmental friendly modes or to the non peak
hours. 4 Anticipation of new technologies: the use of more
environmental friendly vehicles (electric,.LNG,..) within the
logistic chain.
When a police investigator is killed execution-style and Blix's own
daughter is targeted by the killer, he makes a dangerous decision,

Interaction in the Language Curriculum offers an innovative theory
of language education integrating curriculum practice, research and
teaching. It emphasises the interdependence of knowledge and values
and stresses the central importance of learning as a social
process. Leo van Lier argues that moral as well as intellectual and
practical principles must underlie curriculum development and
everyday teaching, captured in his triple focus on Awareness,
Autonomy, and Authenticity. In addition to its rich grounding in
language education practice, the book draws support for his
position from diverse sources in sociology, philosophy and
cognitive science, from the work of Bourdieu, Giddens,
Wittgenstein, Peirce, Vygotsky, Bakhtin, and Dewey. In the current
broadening context of language education this study makes an
important contribution to research. It presents a coherent
philosophical theory as well as considering practical issues in
implementation of a new language curriculum. As such, it will be of
great benefit to teachers, applied linguists and educationalists
generally.

The hospitality and tourism sector is a large and rapidly expanding
industry worldwide, and can rightfully be described as a vehicle of
globalisation. Hotels are among the cornerstones of the industry
often drawing workers from the most vulnerable segments of
multicultural labour markets, accommodating and entertaining
tourists and business travelers from around the world. This book
explores the organisation of work, worker identities and worker
strategies in hotel workplaces, as they are located in
heterogeneous labour markets being changed by processes of
globalisation. It uses an explicitly geographical approach to
understand how different groups of workers experience and respond
to challenges in the hospitality industry, and is based on recent
theoretical debates and empirical research on hotel workplaces in
cities as different as Oslo, Goa, London, Las Vegas and Toronto. A
multi-scalar analysis is taken where concrete worker bodies and
their physical, emotional and embodied labour are seen in relation
to, among other aspects: the regulation of national and regional
labour markets, city governments with global city ambitions, and
global corporate actors and labour migration patterns. The book
sheds light on the hotel workplace as a hierarchical and fragmented
social space as well as addressing questions on worker mobility,
the fragmentation of work, scales of organisation and how workers
can help shape the regulation of their industry. This timely volume
brings together contributions from international academics and is
valuable reading for all those interested in hospitality, tourism,
human geography and globalisation.
This book examines the effects of social relations during primary
school on children’s neurobiology and pathways to maladaptation.
It explores the ways in which after the transition to primary
education children, supervised by teachers, need to function with
their peers. The volume addresses issues affecting 10% to 20% of
children who become poorly accepted or victimized by peers, receive
low support by teachers or even have conflictual relations with
teachers, and may perceive the classroom as a whole as
nonsupportive. Key areas of coverage include: Detrimental
effects of such social experiences, providing an overview of how
such experiences affect children’s neurobiology factors to
understand why these children develop maladaptive outcomes.
Manifestations of social relations, their complexity,
interrelations, and pathways leading to the maladaptive outcomes.
How genetic factors may evoke children’s social environment and
make them susceptible to its impact (e.g., findings on DNA
methylation at both epigenome-wide level as well as on particular
loci on candidate genes). Links between social environmental
stressors and the psychophysiology of elementary school children
and reviews both links with the autonomic nervous system as well as
with the HPA-axis. The impact of social experiences on
neurocognitive function development, decision making, and
structural and functional brain development and discusses
implications for research, prevention, and intervention. Biosocial
Interplay During Elementary School is a must-have resource for
researchers, professors, and graduate students as well as
clinicians and other professionals in clinical child, school, and
developmental psychology, educational psychology/policy and
politics, social work, neuroscience, public health, and all related
disciplines.

The tourism sector - already one of the fastest growing industries
in the world - is currently undergoing extensive change thanks to
strong market growth and a transition to more experience-based
products. The capacity for firms to innovate and adapt to market
developments is crucial to their success, but research-based
knowledge on innovation strategies in tourism remains scarce. This
pioneering Handbook offers timely, original research on innovation
within the tourism industry from a number of interdisciplinary and
global perspectives. The expert contributors adapt theories and
models drawn from the mainstream innovation literature and
supplement them with analytical strategies specific to the tourism
industry. Major themes include forms and sources of innovation in
tourism, innovation processes at both firm and destination levels,
and the ways in which innovation is defined and measured.
Individual chapters cover specific issues such as gendering
processes, user-based innovation, enhanced experience value,
causation and effectuation strategies, and alternative business
models. Students, professors and researchers of innovation,
entrepreneurship, and tourism studies will find this book an
invaluable resource. Contributors: B. Abelsen, G.A. Alsos, T.

Seeing urban politics from the perspective of those who reside in
slums offers an important dimension to the study of urbanism in the
global South. Many people living in sub-standard conditions do not
have their rights as urban citizens recognised and realise that
they cannot rely on formal democratic channels or governance
structures. Through in-depth case studies and comparative research,
The Politics of Slums in the Global South: Urban Informality in
Brazil, India, South Africa and Peru integrates conceptual
discussions on urban political dynamics with empirical material
from research undertaken in Rio de Janeiro, Delhi, Chennai, Cape
Town, Durban and Lima. The chapters engage with the relevant
literature and present empirical material on urban governance and
cities in the South, housing policy for the urban poor, the
politics of knowledge and social mobilisation. Recent theories on
urban informality and subaltern urbanism are explored, and the
issue of popular participation in public interventions is
critically assessed. The book is aimed at a scholarly readership of
postgraduate students and researchers in development studies, urban
geography, political science, urban sociology and political
geography. It is also of great value to urban decision-makers and
practitioners.

In this book I try to give a coherent and consistent overview of
what an ecological approach to language learning might look like.
This is not a fully fledged grand theory that aims to provide an
explanation of everything, but an attempt to provide a rationale
for taking an ecological world view and applying it to language
education, which I regard as one of the most important of all human
activities. Goethe once said that everything has been thought of
before, but that the difficulty is to think of it again. The same
certainly is true of the present effort. If it has any innovative
ideas to offer, these lie in a novel combination of thoughts and
ideas that have been around for a long, long time. The reader will
encounter influences that range from Spinoza to Bakhtin and from
Vygotsky to Halliday. The scope of the work is intentionally broad,
covering all major themes that are part of the language learning
process and the language teaching profession. These themes include
language, perception and action, self, learning, critical pedagogy
and research. At the same time I have attempted to look at both the
macro and the micro sides of the ecological coin, and address
issues from both a theoretical and a practical perspective. This,
then, aims to be a book that can be read by practitioners and
theoreticians alike, and the main idea is that it should be
readable and challenging at the same time.
This book offers a comprehensive perspective on metalinguistic
knowledge and processes, and presents a coherent argument for
building an element of language awareness into the language
curriculum at all educational levels. It offers a balanced
perspective on first and second language acquisition, classroom
talk, language use in the multicultural work place, translation,
Esperanto, whole language, historical perspectives, critical
pedagogy, the education of language teachers, the teaching of
grammar, phonology, and writing.
