Women and Positive Aging: An International Perspective presents the
noted research in the fields of psychology, gerontology, and gender
studies, reflecting the increasingly popular and pervasive positive
aging issues of women in today's society from different cohorts,
backgrounds, and life situations. Each section describes a bridge
between the theoretical aspects and practical applications of the
theory that is consistent with the scientist-practitioner training
model in psychology, including case studies and associated
intervention strategies with older women in each chapter. In
addition to incorporating current research on aging women's issues,
each section provides the reader with background about the topic to
give context and perspective.
Black Belt Statistics: A Competency-Based Approach (Plus SPSS and
R) clearly communicates statistical competencies to students,
allows for practice and evaluation, and arranges competencies in a
hierarchy. The workbook employs a martial arts-inspired belt
system, awarding students new achievement ranks after they've
demonstrated mastery of key concepts and allowing them to proceed
to the next level of competencies. The workbook features 11
chapters, each of which represent a belt and proceed in ascending
order from white belt to black belt. Opening chapters address basic
terminology, resolving formulas, rounding figures, research designs
and variables, scales of measurement, and frequency tables and
graphs. In later chapters, students learn about central tendency,
bivariate correlation and scatterplots, basic probability,
hypothesis testing, and z and t tests. More advanced chapters cover
confidence intervals, ANOVA, simple regression, Chi-Square,
choosing the appropriate test, and SPSS and R programming. Designed
to help students at all levels develop statistical skills and a
sound knowledge base, Black Belt Statistics is an ideal
supplementary workbook for courses in social science statistics and
statistical methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
In the Field: A Field Experience Manual for Internship and Service
Learning Students provides readers with practical advice to help
them prepare and conduct onsite field training in a variety of
applied professions. It offers students weekly learning goals, case
studies, informational asides, exercises, and discussion questions
to engage them throughout their internship or service learning
placement. The manual is appropriate for undergraduate or graduate
programs and assumes that internship and service learning
placements often occur outside of clinical mental health settings.
The text is designed to function as a workbook that is easily
adaptable to a student's unique training needs, allowing them to
select the chapters that best align with their individual
experiences and learning goals. It guides readers through the
preplanning, planning, and onsite stages involved in a placement,
encouraging them to critically consider the career development and
academic learning involved throughout the process. Serving as an
interactive guide that assists students in tracking the
developmental nature of their own learning, In the Field helps
readers make the most out of real-world experiences and onsite
learning opportunities.
Older Women Who Work: Resilience, Choice, and Change provides one
of the first in-depth examinations of women age 65 and older who
have delayed retirement, exploring personal and career identity,
social roles, and quality of life concerns. The fifteenth book in
APA's Division 35 Psychology of Women series, this edited volume
presents a rich array of qualitative and quantitative research on
older women's experiences in the workplace. Chapter authors share
insights about how organizational leaders can change societal
structures to better support the motivations and needs of diverse
older women in the workplace. The book also describes how
consultants, educators, and mental health professionals can
encourage development of personal grit, to help the growing numbers
of older women exercise their right to opportunities and be
adaptable in the face of employment challenges.
