This collection features four peer-reviewed literature reviews on plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria in agriculture. The first chapter considers the use of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) as plant biostimulants in agriculture. It considers the benefits of PGPR, such as their ability to promote plant growth and productivity under both normal and abiotic-stressed induced environments. The chapter also looks towards PGPR application as a sustainable and efficient method to enhance crop production. The second chapter reviews recent research on the use of PGPR as biofertilizers to enhance root function and improve nutrient uptake, with emphasis on their effects on root architecture, metabolism and adaptation to abiotic stress. The third chapter explores the use of microbial bio-effectors and their ability to optimise the mineral nutrition of agricultural crops. The chapter also reviews the wealth of research on the mechanism of action, applications and efficacy of key plant growth-promoting microorganisms (PGPMs). The final chapter reviews the use of plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) as a biocontrol agent against invertebrate pests. The chapter analyses the effects of PGPB species against these pest types and enlists a case study on the PGPB species Pseudomonas protegens to further demonstrate this.

Every class includes a number of pupils whose learning needs are greater than, or different from, those of the rest of the class. All teachers should be able to identify targets to use as the baseline for intervention and to help those children to make appropriate progress in small steps so as to feel a sense of achievement. However, many teachers in mainstream primary schools don't know what the next 'target' should be. They know what the child can't do, but they often don't know how to express that as a target. This third title in a powerful new series of practical books will support SENCos and mainstream primary school teachers in thinking about what their SEN pupils can do and deciding on the next steps. It offers a system for setting and monitoring targets which can replace or complement IEPs. Suggestions for strategies and activities for achieving targets are included throughout. * Each book comes with a CD with photocopiable material, including targets pages and Records of Progress templates. Target Ladders: Autistic Spectrum addresses seven key aspects of autism: Social interaction: friendships; Social interaction: relationships; Getting attention; Managing change; Personal organisation; Managing feelings; Non-verbal interaction. Helpful checklists and practical advice for creating AS-friendly classrooms make this an ideal practical resource for the busy primary teacher. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Differentiating for Inclusion series is designed to narrow the gap between children with SEN and their peers. Books in this series offer teachers helpful guidance in identifying both what children can already do and what specific targets they need support in achieving. The positive approach of structured small-steps targets, together with activities for teaching these, will ensure that children with SEN make accelerated progress. The books are all written by experienced practitioners.
Since its opening in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge has become an icon for the beauty and prosperity of the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as a symbol of engineering achievement. Constructing the bridge posed political and financial challenges that were at least as difficult as those faced by the project's builders. To meet these challenges, northern California boosters created a new kind of agency: an autonomous, self-financing special district. The Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District developed into a powerful organization that shaped the politics and government of the Bay Area as much as the bridge shaped its physical development. From the moment of the bridge district's incorporation in 1928, its managers pursued their own agenda. They used all the resources at their disposal to preserve their control over the bridge, cultivating political allies, influencing regional policy, and developing an ambitious public relations program. Undaunted by charges of mismanagement and persistent efforts to turn the bridge (as well as its lucrative tolls) over to the state, the bridge district expanded into mass transportation, taking on ferry and bus operations to ensure its survival to this day. Drawing on previously unavailable archives, Paying the Toll gives us an inside view of the world of high-stakes development, cronyism, and bureaucratic power politics that have surrounded the Golden Gate Bridge since its inception.

The American West - where such landmarks as the Golden Gate Bridge rival wild landscapes in popularity and iconic significance - has been viewed as a frontier of technological innovation. Where Minds and Matters Meet calls attention to the convergence of Western history and the history of technology, showing that the region's politics and culture have shaped seemingly placeless, global technological practices and institutions. Drawing on political and social history as well as art history, the book's essays take the cultural measure of the region's great technological milestones, including San Diego's Panama-California Exposition, the building of the Hetch Hetchy Dam in the Sierras, and traffic planning in Los Angeles. Contributors: Amy Bix, Louise Nelson Dyble, Patrick McCray, Linda Nash, Peter Neushul, Matthew W Roth, Bruce Sinclair, L Chase Smith, Carlene Stephens, Aristotle Tympas, Jason Weems, Peter Westwick, and, Stephanie Young.
