This book provides scientific research into Cognitive Internet of
Things for Smart Society, with papers presented at the 2nd EAI
International Conference on Robotic Sensor Networks. The conference
explores the integration of networks and robotic technologies,
which has become a topic of increasing interest for both
researchers and developers from academic fields and industries
worldwide. The authors posit that big networks will be the main
approach to the next generation of robotic research, with the
explosive number of networks models and increasing computational
power of computers significantly extending the number of potential
applications for robotic technologies while also bringing new
challenges to the network's community. The 2nd EAI International
Conference on Robotic Sensor Networks was held 25-26 August 2018 at
the Kitakyushu International Conference Center (MICE), Kitakyushu,
Japan.
This book describes a range of new biometric technologies, such as
high-resolution fingerprint, finger-knuckle-print, multi-spectral
backhand, 3D fingerprint, tongueprint, 3D ear, and multi-spectral
iris technologies. Further, it introduces readers to efficient
feature extraction, matching and fusion algorithms, in addition to
developing potential systems of its own. These advanced biometric
technologies and methods are divided as follows: 1. High-Resolution
Fingerprint Recognition; 2. Finger-Knuckle-Print Verification; 3.
Other Hand-Based Biometrics; and 4. New Head-Based Biometrics.
Traditional biometric technologies, such as fingerprint, face,
iris, and palmprint, have been extensively studied and addressed in
many research books. However, all of these technologies have their
own advantages and disadvantages, and there is no single type of
biometric technology that can be used for all applications. Many
new biometric technologies have been developed in recent years,
especia lly in response to new applications. The contributions
gathered here focus on how to develop a new biometric technology
based on the requirements of essential applications, and how to
design efficient algorithms that yield better performance.
This title provides a unique theoretical framework for multi-mode
resonant antennas and different approaches to their implementation,
with an emphasis on mode gauge functionality, a new concept for a
clear identification and flexible control of all usable resonant
modes in multi-mode resonant antenna design. The book commences by
advancing a generalized odd-even mode theory as a general
theoretical framework for resonant elementary antennas, offering
new insights into the classical problem of coupling effects between
antenna and transmission lines and helping reveal the operation
mechanism of elementary antennas under multi-mode resonance. Then,
the concept of "mode gauge" is developed and employed for wideband
elementary antenna design by simultaneously exciting and tuning
multiple resonant modes within a single radiator. Apart from
theoretical explorations, the authors also provide analysis of
up-to-date implementation of multi-mode resonant elementary
antennas with different functionalities, including wideband
antennas, circularly polarized antennas, multiband antennas,
frequency scanning antennas and low-profile antennas. Academics,
students and professional engineers at all levels will greatly
benefit from the book and will be provided with historical
background, state-of-the-art methodology, useful design tools and
multiple applications of multi-mode resonant antennas.
In this interdisciplinary volume, sociolinguists and sociologists
explore the intersections of language, culture, and identity for
rural populations around the world. Challenging stereotypical views
of rural backwardness and urban progress, the contributors reveal
how language is a key mechanism for constructing the meaning of
places and the people who identify with them. With research that
spans numerous countries and several continents, the chapters in
this volume add broadly to knowledge about status and prestige,
authenticity and belonging, rural-urban relations, and innovation
and change among rural peoples and in rural communities across the
globe.
Topological Insulator and Related Topics, Volume 108 in the
Semiconductors and Semimental series, highlights new advances in
the field, with this new volume presenting interesting chapters on
topics such as Majorana modes at the ends of one dimensional
topological superconductors, Optical/electronic properties of Weyl
semimetals, High magnetic fields to unveil the electronic
structure, magnetic field-induced transitions, and unconventional
transport properties of topological semimetals, New aspects of
strongly correlated superconductivity in the nearly flat-band
regime, Anomalous transport properties in topological semimetals,
Pseudo-gauge field and piezo-electromagnetic response in
topological materials, Topological Gapped States Protected by
Spatial Symmetries, and more.
