In this fascinating study Michael Rowe focuses on state-formation in Napoleonic Europe. It brings together the research findings of specialists in the histories of Europe's constituent nations and states during a momentous period in their development. Thematically focused and integrated within a comparative framework, the individual contributions explore areas as diverse as Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Russia. What impact did Napoleon have on these nations, and how did they respond to his challenge?
Situated at the intersection of cultural heritage and local
community, this book enlarges our understanding of the Indigenous
peoples of southern Mexico and northern Central America who became
detached from "the ancient Maya" through colonialism, government
actions, and early twentieth-century anthropological and
archaeological research. Through grass-roots heritage programs,
local communities are reconnecting with a much valorized but
distant past. Maya Cultural Heritage explores how community
programs conceived and implemented in a collaborative style are
changing the relationship among, archaeological practice, the
objects of archaeological study, and contemporary ethnolinguistic
Mayan communities. Rather than simply describing Maya sites,
McAnany concentrates on the dialogue nurtured by these
participatory heritage programs, the new "heritage-scapes" they
foster, and how the diverse Maya communities of today relate to
those of the past.

This carto-bibliography of over 1300 Devon manuscript maps
published in two volumes contains details not only of the maps
themselves, extracted from 30 separate repositories in addition to
some in private hands, but also biographical information on the
surveyors who made them, over a third of whom have not appeared in
any national cartographic reference book. There is also an
Introduction which explains the significance of these, mostly
large-scale, Devon maps and how they fit into the national

the maps and the two volumes will be presented in a slipcase. The
volumes will be an indispensable reference tool for all interested
