When new fellows join my lab, I give them some reading materials so that they can orient themselves in their assignment in a new eld. When fellows leave my lab, some after writing their dissertations, I prefer to give them a book as a symbolic present. I was longing for a book that contained something on more or less eve- thing about the islets. At the same time, I wished it contained information as recent as possible. There are a few such books in the market but they are pretty outdated. I started picking islets myself from October 1990, when I joined the Rolf Luft Center, Karolinska Institutet. Over the years my fascination for islet research remained high. Since last year, I felt a stronger urge to do more for these mysterious and hidden mini-organs that are directly or indirectly involved in the pathogenesis of all forms of diabetes that affects ?250 million people in the world. After I launched the Islet (landesbioscience. com/journals/islets) and founded the Islet Society (isletso- ety. org), there was a momentum that could be utilized to create something equally meaningful i. e. this book. The idea cracked in September 2008. Starting September 19, 2008, I contacted an estimated 90% of the authors who published anything on the islets during 2007-2008 and who could be traced from the internet.

The drugs which are photo sensitive should be packed by a kind of system thus the product cannot be degraded. Now a day, it has been seen that some pharmaceutical companies do not follow the standard packaging system and for similar kind of product different types packaging are being introduced. This is a type of research report designed to determine the photolytic degradation of an antipsychotic drug Angenta(r), product of Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Bangladesh, is a combination of contains flupentixol INN 0.5 mg (as di-hydrochloride) and melitracen INN 10 mg (as di-hydrochloride). By conducting various type of physical, chemical and instrumental tests were done to determine whether the product is photo sensitive or not in various conditions (control, direct sunlight, normal light, 25watt and 40watt light condition). Some tests include, physical tests (hardness, thickness, weight variation, friability, color etc.), UV-Spectroscopy. It was observed that the potency of Angenta(r)was decreased gradually in various conditions after light exposure and radiation may hamper the content uniformity of the tab

Salinity intrusion is one of the greatest environmental issues in Bangladesh. The impacts of salinity intrusion on food production of coastal districts are likely to severe. In these area salinity intrudes by natural processess such as recent past super cyclone-Sidr, Aila and floods and by the artifical process for shrimp farming. This study is mainly based on primary information through focus group discussions, personal interview, field visits, institutional consultations etc. and secondary information. The present major cropping pattern is the single crop and multi crops are the minor. The major crops are paddy such Aus, Aman and Boro and wheat, potato, sugarcane, garlic, onion, chili and vegetables etc. The previous major cropping pattern is double crops and single crop is the minor. Three decades ago salinity intrusion rate was very low as that time salinity intrudes only by natural process. The agricultural land is decreasing and shifting into shrimp farming and settlement for the population growth, flood and river erosion. The present yields of rice have decreased comparing to previous time because of salinity intrusion by natural and artificial process.
