This book addresses heated issues in Integrated Content and
Language in Higher Education (ICLHE) teacher training with specific
emphasis on case studies that will contribute to inform future
ICLHE teacher training research and practice. One of the most
significant phenomena concerning language in higher education in
modern time has been the rise of content subjects taught in an
additional language, English being the chosen language in most of
the cases. The implementation and teaching of Integrated Content
and Language in Higher Education (ICLHE) or English as Medium of
Instruction (EMI) is a multifaceted, dynamic process that cannot be
considered in isolation. Indeed, there are a multitude of
interrelated factors that pivot on situating the learner in the
centre of the learning process and which directly shape ICLHE
teacher training. This is why training lecturers to teach learners
in an additional language in Higher Education has been considered a
challenge for the profession as numerous publications demonstrate.
This book brings together the innovative work of different
researchers around the world on how universities, researchers and
practitioners are facing and developing Integrating Content and
Language in Higher Education (ICHLE) teacher training. All in all,
the different contributions reflect different issues that play a
fundamental role in the design of effective ICLHE professional
development and provide data and reflections that will hopefully
contribute to inform future ICLHE teacher training programmes.
Teacher Professional Development for the Integration of Content and
Language in Higher Education will be an important resource for
academics, researchers, and advanced students of Education and
Teacher Training Research and Practice. The chapters included in
this book were originally published as a special issue of
Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching.
Current advancements in civil rights and environmental activism
emphasize the crucial importance of making environmental
information widely available to the public, regardless of whether
it is in the hands of the government or of corporations, especially
when the information is needed to understand and prevent risks for
human health and the environment. In the wake of a resurgence of
environmental and civil rights activism, conflicts flare between
the right of the people to know and the right of private actors to
keep certain information hidden, mostly for commercial reasons.
This book offers a detailed comparative analysis of how
environmental information is being accessed in different countries
and jurisdictions, and how these issues are currently being handled
by judges and governments. Focusing on the right of access to
environmental information held and produced by private actors and
the legal issues that emerge when other values and rights are
compromised, this book offers an alternative framework to improve
on current legal systems, suggesting a more nuanced and balanced
approach that takes both set of interests duly into consideration.
Providing an integrated approach to public environmental law and
private commercial law, the book integrates the arguments from both
sides to establish a common ground, defining shared principles and
models that provide a solid basis for a robust new system.
Reviewing access to private sector information at a truly
international level, this book will be relevant to students,
academics and practitioners working in these areas.
Carotenoids are a large class of isoprenoid pigments produced by
plants and certain microbes. More than 700 naturally occurring
carotenoids have been identified. Apocarotenoids are tailored from
carotenoids by oxidative enzymes. Apocarotenoids act as visual or
volatile signals to attract pollinating and seed dispersal agents.
They are also the key players in allelopathic interactions and
plant defense. Biology, Chemistry and Applications of
Apocarotenoids provides detailed account of the fundamental
chemistry of apocarotenoids and the basic methods used in
carotenoid research, and critical discussions of the biochemistry,
functions, and applications of these important compounds. Topics
covered in the proposed book include various aspects of the roles
of apocarotenoids in colour and colouration, photosynthesis and
other photofunctions and protection. The formation and roles of
carotenoid metabolites and breakdown products as perfume/aroma
compounds are also be outlined. Features: Provides an organized
overview of apocarotenoids and their chemistry and biological
functions Focuses on recent discoveries on apocarotenoids, their
nature and functions. Details potential uses of apocarotenoids in
agriculture, pharmacy, food industry, and apocarotenoid production
at industrial level This book has been written by leading experts
in apocarotenoid research and gives a comprehensive overview on the
diversity of apocarotenoid compounds and would serve as a reference
book for researches in Plant Physiology, Molecular Biology,
Biochemistry, Biophysics and Medicine.

Examines the role of Christianity in British statecraft, politics,
media, the armed forces and in the education and socialization of
the young during the Second World War. This volume presents a major
reappraisal of the role of Christianity in Great Britain between
1939 and 1945, examining the influence of Christianity on British
society, statecraft, politics, the media, the armed forces, and on
the education and socialization of the young. Its chapters address
themes such as the spiritual mobilization of nation and empire; the
limitations of Mass Observation's commentary on wartime religious
life; Catholic responses to strategic bombing; servicemen and the
dilemma of killing; the development of Christian-Jewish relations,
and the predicament of British military chaplains in Germany in the
summer of 1945. By demonstrating the enduring -even renewed-
importance of Christianity in British national life, British
Christianity and the Second World War also sets the scene for some
major post-war developments. Though the war years triggered a
'resacralization' of British society and culture, inherent racism
meant that the exalted self-image of Christian Britain proved sadly
deceptive for post-war immigrants from the Caribbean. Wartime
confidence in the prospective role of the state in religious
education soon transpired to be ill-founded, while the profound
upheavals of war -and even the bromides of 'BBC Religion'- were, in
the longer term, corrosive of conventional religious practice and
traditional denominational loyalties. This volume will be of
interest to historians of British society and the Second World War,
twentieth-century British religion, and the perennial interplay of
religion and conflict.
Raul Madrid's Overexposed represents the first in-depth study of
the involvement of U.S. banks in the Third World debt crisis. Based
on extensive interviews with commercial bankers, the book examines
the decision-making process at U.S. banks that led to the lending
boom of the 1970s and early 1980s as well as the role the banks
played in the management of the debt crisis. Madrid argues that
banks, particularly the largest U.S. institutions, played a much
larger and more active role in the development and management of
the crisis than is commonly believed. A comprehensive appendix
contains detailed profiles of the seven largest lenders to the
Third World, including data on their developing country exposures,
profits, and debt conversion activities.
It all started at the carnival. That is where Joey makes a new
friend: a bright yellow balloon. Joey and his beloved balloon do
everything together, until the balloon accidentally slips off
Joey's wrist and flies far, far away. What will Joey do without his
special friend? Tiffany Papageorge has crafted a poignant tale of
love, loss, and letting go that will serve as a comforting guide to
children who are navigating the complicated emotions of grief.
Rich, luminous illustrations by Erwin Madrid perfectly capture
these timeless themes, making them accessible to even the youngest
reader. Honest, unflinching, and ultimately reassuring, this book
will resonate with anyone who has endured the darkness of grief,
while offering hope for brighter days ahead.

This book presents a novel approach for studying the impact of
leadership styles on supply chain resilience using a combination of
transactional and transformational leadership. The book consists of
two main sections: The first introduces key concepts and provides a
framework for understanding the research problem and methodology.
The second section presents five structural equation models
developed and validated using data collected from a survey of
managers and engineers in the Mexican Maquiladora Industry. These
models explore the relationships between key variables, such as
agility, flexibility, alertness, and efficiency, and how they are
affected by different leadership styles. The findings of this study
suggest that a combination of transactional and transformational
leadership is highly effective in enhancing resilience and
achieving better results during disruptive events. Written in a
clear and accessible style, this book is an essential resource for
scholars, researchers, and practitioners interested in supply chain
management, leadership, and resilience. It contributes to the
existing literature on these topics and provides practical insights
for improving supply chain performance in today's complex and
dynamic business environments.

Individuals' behaviours at work are known to be shaped by cold, or
cognitive-motivational, processes as well as hot, or
affect-motivational, processes. To date, employee proactivity
research has mainly focused on the 'cold' side. But emotion has
been proposed to 'energize' employees' proactivity, especially in
interdependent and uncertain work environments. In this pioneering
work, expert scholars offer new thinking on the process by
examining how emotion can drive employees' proactivity in the
workplace and how, in turn, that proactivity can shape one's
emotional experiences.
Frank Pearl is chasing a prize in this Judy Moody(R) story for
newly independent readers.
Just once, Frank Pearl would like to "win" at something He is going
to win a prize if it's the last thing he does. Could an amazing
yo-yo trick or Cookie the parrot land him a prize? Could a blue
ribbon be his at the Great Third-Grade Breakfast Bash? With three
shots at a prize and Judy Moody cheering him on (sort of?), there's
no way that Frank can miss out on a trophy this time.
This volume offers novel and provocative insights into
vulnerability and exclusion, two concepts crucial for the
understanding of contemporary political agency. In twelve critical
essays, the contributors explore the dense theoretical content,
complex histories and conceptual intersection of vulnerability and
exclusion. A rich array of topics are covered as the volume
searches for the ways that vulnerable and excluded groups relate to
each other, where the boundary between the excluded and the
included arises, and what the stakes of 'invulnerability' might be.
Drawing on the works of Hegel (via Judith Butler), Helmuth Plessner
and Hannah Arendt to situate the project in a solid historical
context, the volume likewise tackles pressing and contemporary
issues such as the state of human capital under neoliberalism, the
flawed nature of democracy itself, and the vulnerability inherent
in extreme precarity, extreme violence, and interdependence. The
contributions come from philosophers with a range of backgrounds in
social philosophy and critical social sciences, who use related
conceptual tools to tackle the political challenges of the 21st
century. Together, they present a ground-breaking overview of the
main challenges which social exclusion presents to contemporary
global societies.
Kant's account of emotions has only recently begun to receive the
attention that this topic deserves, as it casts new light over the
manifold features of transcendental philosophy. The authors expand
the contemporary overview of the Kantian treatment from both a
neuroscientific and a continental philosophical perspective. The
volume opens paths to reevaluate neglected aspects of the Kantian
model of human rationality.

This book discusses the potential for Kant's political and
juridical philosophy to shed light on current social challenges and
policy. By considering Kant as a contemporary and not above moral
responsibility, the authors explore his political theory as the
philosophical foundation of human rights, discussing the right to
citizenship, social dynamics and the scope of global justice.
Focusing on topics such as society, Kant's position on human
rights, domestic economic justice, public education and moral
virtue, the authors analyse the shortcomings of Kant's modes of
thought and help the reader to gain new perspective both on this
classical thinker and on more contemporary issues.
