Espionage thriller, based on the 1959 ITV series, starring Stanley Baker, Peter Cushing and Mai Zetterling. Joe Newman (Baker), a jazz musician who has lived in England since the outbreak of World War II, is greatly surprised to discover that his father, believed to have died some 20 years before, may still be alive and heads to his hometown in Bavaria to investigate. While there he becomes enveloped in a conspiracy that reaches to both sides of the Iron Curtain and involves the mysterious Dr. von Brecht (Cushing).
Luke and his wise Aunt Hegla arrive at an English seaside hotel where the Royal Commission for Prevention of Cruelty to Children is holding a convention. Luke discovers that its members are not charity workers but wicked witches who plan to turn all children into mice - starting with him. The mouse-Luke must alert his aunt and stop their dastardly plan.
Marking Ingmar Bergman's debut as screenwriter and directed by Alf Sjöberg, this expressionistic crime of passion revolves around a young student, Jan-Erik (Alf Kjellin), his sadistic Latin teacher, nicknamed 'Caligula' (Stig Järrel), and a newsagent assistant-cum-prostitute, Bertha (Mai Zetterling). When Jan-Erik assists the drunken Bertha, he becomes her lover. Bertha is, however, terrified of another man, whom it becomes clear is terrorising her. When Jan-Erik finds Bertha dead, he accuses Caligula of being responsible. The themes of creaticity, mentors and oppressive authority, which would become Bergman's trademarks, are staked out in this semi-autobiographical work.
Frances McDormand and Brian Cox star in this political thriller directed by Ken Loach. After American human rights lawyer Paul Sullivan (Brad Dourif) is shot dead at a police roadblock in Belfast his girlfriend Ingrid (McDormand) comes to believe that he was murdered because he discovered sensitive information regarding the troubles in Northern Ireland. To calm the growing outrage, the British Government assigns a top ranking police inspector (Cox) to investigate, and together with Ingrid he uncovers a trail of corruption, cover-ups and violence.
