Analysis and Design of Univariate Subdivision Schemes (Hardcover, 2010 ed.): Malcolm Sabin Analysis and Design of Univariate Subdivision Schemes (Hardcover, 2010 ed.)
Malcolm Sabin
R1,610 Discovery Miles 16 100 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

'Subdivision' is a way of representing smooth shapes in a computer. A curve or surface (both of which contain an in?nite number of points) is described in terms of two objects. One object is a sequence of vertices, which we visualise as a polygon, for curves, or a network of vertices, which we visualise by drawing the edges or faces of the network, for surfaces. The other object is a set of rules for making denser sequences or networks. When applied repeatedly, the denser and denser sequences are claimed to converge to a limit, which is the curve or surface that we want to represent. This book focusses on curves, because the theory for that is complete enough that a book claiming that our understanding is complete is exactly what is needed to stimulate research proving that claim wrong. Also because there are already a number of good books on subdivision surfaces. The way in which the limit curve relates to the polygon, and a lot of interesting properties of the limit curve, depend on the set of rules, and this book is about how one can deduce those properties from the set of rules, and how one can then use that understanding to construct rules which give the properties that one wants.

Advances in Multiresolution for Geometric Modelling (Hardcover, 2005 ed.): Neil Dodgson, Michael S. Floater, Malcolm Sabin Advances in Multiresolution for Geometric Modelling (Hardcover, 2005 ed.)
Neil Dodgson, Michael S. Floater, Malcolm Sabin
R4,670 Discovery Miles 46 700 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Multiresolution methods in geometric modelling are concerned with the generation, representation, and manipulation of geometric objects at several levels of detail. Applications include fast visualization and rendering as well as coding, compression, and digital transmission of 3D geometric objects.

This book marks the culmination of the four-year EU-funded research project, Multiresolution in Geometric Modelling (MINGLE). The book contains seven survey papers, providing a detailed overview of recent advances in the various fields within multiresolution modelling, and sixteen additional research papers. Each of the seven parts of the book starts with a survey paper, followed by the associated research papers in that area. All papers were originally presented at the MINGLE 2003 workshop held at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, UK, 9-11 September 2003.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th IMA International Conference on the Mathematics of Surfaces, held in Sheffield, UK in September 2007. The papers cover a range of ideas from underlying theoretical tools to industrial uses of surfaces. Research is reported on theoretical aspects of surfaces as well as more practical topics.

This volume collects the papers accepted for presentation at the 11th IMA Conference on the Mathematics of Surfaces, held at Loughborough University, 5th-7th September 2005. As with all earlier conferences in the series, contri- tors to this volume comefrom manycountries. The paperspresented herere?ect the interest in a subject of relevance to mathematics, engineering, and computer science, especially in domains such as computer-aided design, computer vision, and computer graphics. The papers in the present volume include eight invited papers, as well as a larger number of submitted papers. They cover a range of ideas from - derlying theoretical tools to industrial and medical uses of surfaces. The latter category includes such diverse topics as surfaces in car design, and modelling of teeth, while the former includes papers on Voronoi diagrams, linear systems, estimation of curvatures on meshes, operators on meshes, intersection of sub- vision surfaces, approximate parameterization, condition numbers, Pythagorean hodographs, artifactsinB-splinesurfaces, B eziersurfacesofminimalenergy, line subdivision, subdivision surfaces, level sets and symmetry, the topology of - gebraic surfaces, curve analysis, interpolation with positivity, and conversion of cyclides to NURBS. Other papers concentrate on particular algorithms arising from applications, such as embedding graphs in manifolds, recoveryof 3D shape from shading, ?nding optimal feedrates for machining, detection of creases in range data, and ?lling holes in range data. We would like to thank all those who attended the conference and helped to make it a succes
