Ryno die klein renoster leer van stropers wanneer ‘n olifantkoei doodgemaak word. Haar baba word verlaat deur die trop wat weghardloop van die gevaar. Baie diere sluit dan by Ryno en sy ma aan op hulle soektog na die matriarg van die trop van olifante. Thabo goes into the forest to hunt for food because their river is polluted. He discovers a golden egg that he puts next to his campfire. During the night the egg hatches. Thabo is surprised because a little dragon hatches from the egg. He looks after her and they become good friends. This is the first book in a series of adventures with the friends.

Ryno the little rhino learns about poachers when an elephant cow is killed. Her baby is deserted by the herd that runs away from the danger. Many animals then join Ryno and his mom on their search for the matriarch of the herd of elephants. The animals converge at a camp in the Game Reserve to get the rangers protect them from the poachers.
