This book examines the intersection of culture and language in
Ireland and Irish contexts. The editors take an interdisciplinary
approach, exploring the ways in which culture, identity and
meaning-making are constructed and performed through a variety of
voices and discourses. This edited collection analyses the work of
well-known Irish authors such as Beckett, Joyce and G. B. Shaw,
combining new methodologies with more traditional approaches to the
study of literary discourse and style. Over the course of the
volume, the contributors also discuss how Irish voices are received
in translation, and how marginal voices are portrayed in the Irish
mediascape. This dynamic book brings together a multitude of
contrasting perspectives, and is sure to appeal to students and
scholars of Irish literature, migration studies, discourse
analysis, traductology and dialectology.
The book builds on an important emergent body of discussion which
questions, both empirically and theoretically, the conventional
neoclassical doctrine that economies are more efficient if the
state withdraws from it. It develops a "space-time" approach to
state theory as a way of explaining development outcomes in the
global economy as the latter increasingly shifts to what is
referred to as "knowledge capitalism". It examines two global cases
- Finland and China - as expressions of two broad models of
successful development punctuated most recently by successful
responses to the Covid-19 pandemic. It also contrasts both cases
with the unsuccessful development of Brazil and Argentina toward
"knowledge capitalism" and the ramifications of that for their
efforts to combat Covid-19. This book will be of interest to
academics in economics, politics and international relations.
This volume provides the reader with the most up-to-date and
relevant knowledge on the reactivity of metals located in zeolite
materials, either in framework or extra-framework positions, and
the way it is connected with the nature of the chemical environment
provided by the host. Since the first report of the isomorphous
substitution of titanium in the framework of zeolites giving rise
to materials with unusual catalytic properties, the incorporation
of many other metals have been investigated with the aim for
developing catalysts with improved performance in different
reactions. The continuous expansion of the field, both in the
variety of metals and zeolite structures, has been accompanied by
an increasing focus on the relationship between the reactivity of
metal centers and their unique chemical environment. The concepts
covered in this volume are of interest to people working in the
field of inorganic and physical chemistry, catalysis and chemical
engineering, but also for those more interested in theoretical
approaches to chemical reactivity. In particular the volume is
useful to postgraduate students conducting research in the design,
synthesis and catalytic performance of metal-containing zeolites in
both academic and application contexts.
This book contains a selection of contributions presenting the
latest research in the field of Computers in Education and, more
specifically, in E-Learning. The topics covered range from
proposals regarding the newest de facto standards in E-Learning -
such as IMS Learning Design - to the more practical aspects of the
design, i.e. implementations and the actual application of
educational tools in real settings. The volume reflects the diverse
scenario of the application of computers in the educational field
by describing previous experiences and addressing some of the
present key issues such as Learning Management Systems as well as
more innovative aspects such as personalized or ubiquitous
learning.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
At its current state of historical development, capital finds its
contradictions tending towards an irresolvable character as
manifested in multiple crises. The defense of life and the
construction of renewed hope for a future require opposition to the
domination of capital. This book contributes to that effort by
setting out an analysis of the mechanisms on which capital is
based.

This collective volume explores the ways merchants managed to
connect different spaces all over the globe in the early modern
period by organizing the movement of goods, capital, information
and cultural objects between different commercial maritime systems
in the Mediterranean and Atlantic basin. Merchants and Trade
Networks in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, 1550-1800 consists
of four thematic blocs: theoretical considerations, the social
composition of networks, connected spaces, networks between formal
and informal exchange, as well as possible failures of ties. This
edited volume features eleven contributions who deal with
theoretical concepts such as social network analysis,
globalization, social capital and trust. In addition, several
chapters analyze the coexistence of mono-cultural and transnational
networks, deal with network failure and shifting network
geographies, and assess the impact of kinship for building up
international networks between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
This work evaluates the use of specific network types for building
up connections across the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Basin
stretching out to Central Europe, the Northern Sea and the Pacific.
This book is of interest to those who study history of economics
and maritime economics, as well as historians and scholars from
other disciplines working on maritime shipping, port studies,
migration, foreign mercantile communities, trade policies and
mercantilism.
