An unwelcome blast from the past puts Patrick and Ingrid back in
harm's way . . . Nicholas Haldane was dead, but he wouldn't lie
down. And now Julian Hardy, the man who hired him in a bid to
destroy Richard Daws, a top official in the National Crime Agency,
is out of prison and has changed his surname to Mannering. Patrick
Gillard, working for the agency but within the Avon and Somerset
force with his wife Ingrid Langley, receives a request from MI5,
for whom he used to work, to investigate Mannering. They are then
called in when his cleaner makes a shocking discovery. Meanwhile,
an enigmatic couple calling themselves Simon and Natasha Graves
turn up in the village, intent on pestering Patrick's recently
widowed mother. Could there be a connection to Mannering? Patrick
and Ingrid are soon embroiled in a deeply personal and disturbing
case.
Patrick has a new desk job and seems to be out of harm's way . . .
but not for long. Patrick Gillard has taken on a new role as the
NCA's officer within Avon and Somerset Police's Regional Organised
Crime Unit, much to his wife and working partner Ingrid Langley's
relief. It may seem like a safe desk job, but Ingrid's relief is
short-lived when she finds the head of the Metropolitan Police's
specialist undercover unit, F9, Commander Rolt, barely alive in a
field in Somerset. Unsurprisingly, Patrick is soon pulled back into
frontline action. And when further, gruesome discoveries are made,
Patrick and Ingrid are plunged into danger yet again in the hunt
for one of the Met's most-wanted criminals.

about persuasion continue to increase in importance. This book's
goal is to offer a broad introduction to the ethical standards,
challenges, understanding, and decision-making strategies involved
in the practice of persuasion. Persuasion Ethics Today links real
world persuasive communication activities to fundamental
philosophies of ethics. It also offers tools for students and
practitioners to engage with ethical dilemmas in a systematic way,
and jumpstart debates about the right ethical choices in an
increasingly complex media and social environment.

Do even the best of men have a dark side? When several shots are
fired into the bistro where husband and wife crime-fighting duo
Patrick Gillard and Ingrid Langley, both of whom work for the
Serious Organised Crime Agency, are meeting their boss, they
discuss the shooting with their friend, Detective Chief Inspector
James Carrick. Carrick was also personally attacked, several years
previously, by Benny Cooper, who was eventually convicted of
involvement in child pornography. Benny and his accomplice are now
out of prison, and soon the intimidation of Carrick and his family
returns. When Cooper is found murdered, Carrick's bloodstained
clothing, when he is found unconscious at the murder scene, makes
him a prime suspect. Ingrid and Patrick take up the case, plunging
themselves and their careers into grave danger. But how far is
Patrick prepared to go in order to prove James' innocence?
