Like all First Nations languages, Lillooet (Lil'wat) is a
repository for an abundantly rich oral literature. In These Are Our
Legends, the fifth volume of the First Nations Language Readers
series, the reader will discover seven traditional Lillooet
sptakwlh (variously translated into English as "legends," "myths,"
or "bed-time stories." These texts are presented in a technical
transcription that can be used by linguists, and also in a
practical orthography that can be used by Lillooet speakers
themselves. An English translation is also given. Basic information
on the Lillooet language, its grammar, and a glossary are included
in the volume. With thanks to the Mount Currie Cultural Centre and
the Tszil Publishing House.
Jesus Christ our Saviour has put together a few of His miraculous
pictures to prove that He was God all along though He put on a
human nature, "And the Word was made Flesh and dwelt amongst us,
full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the
only Son from God." Jesus Christ is very much alive. Alleluia After
Our Lord's resurrection before he ascended into heaven, he summoned
his disciples to meet him on the mountain. When the disciples saw
Him they fell down before Him. Jesus came up to them and said, "All
authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go,
therefore, and make disciples of all nations; baptize them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach
them to observe all the commands I have given you. And know that I
am with you always; yes, even to the end of time."
Although the main purpose of this book is for the student to learn
English grammar skills, the book also touches on life in Ghana,
West Africa. It tells the student about the daily life of Ghanaians
living a meager, yet productive life. In Ghana, we have qualified
doctors and nurses working in hospitals; we have both male and
female students in the medical field studying to be doctors, some
of whom are now qualified and are working in the United States. We
also have students in law, again, both men and women studying to be
lawyers. A good many have graduated and are working abroad. The
African-American student will benefit a great deal from this book
in that the book encourages students to read about our ancestors.
This connection to the past can enable students to see life
differently and, perhaps, make a better life for themselves.
This truth mingled with fiction tale is much more than a mystery.
There is murder, intrigue, adventure and of course a little
romance. Bria is led on a path that is filled with drama and
danger. All she really wants is for her life to return to her
carefully laid out plan. But life is never exactly how you map it
out and she learns that she must depend on others if she is to make
it through her trials.
