El mango (Mangifera indica L.) es una especie ampliamente difundida en Venezuela. Para fines comerciales de exportacion se prefirio el cultivar 'Haden' proveniente de Florida, por su atractiva apariencia y exquisito sabor. A partir del ano 2000 la mayoria de las plantaciones de 'Haden' se abandonaron por factores inherentes al mismo: partenocarpia, baja germinabilidad del polen, toxicidad por manganeso y severas enfermedades como agallas o escoba de brujas y declineo. El estudio de estas enfermedades permitio determinar que las mismas son favorecidas por desbalances nutricionales de las plantas. Deficiencias de Ca, Cu, Zn y excesos de Mn, predisponen a las plantas para que los hongos endofitos que prevalecen asintomaticamente en sus tejidos se transformen en patogenos y desencadenen tales enfermedades. En este sentido, el estudio de los microorganismos endofitos plantea un nuevo paradigma para la Fitopatologia clasica ya que su presencia no es la unica condicion para desencadenar la enfermedad sino tambien la predisposicion de la planta por condiciones desbalanceadas."
